Hotel Tivoli in Germany by CROSS Architecture / Benthem Crouwel GmbH

Wednesday, September 25th, 2019

Article source: CROSS Architecture

On the site of the old Tivoli on Krefelder Strasse in Aachen, Germany, a new, attractive residential area with high-quality office and commercial spaces has been built. The new 3-star Hampton by Hilton Aachen Tivoli hotel of the Hilton Group is located halfway between the motorway and – within walking distance – the historic city centre and the famous Aachen cathedral.

With its deliberate elevation of the cubature and an excptional façade design, it not only marks the access to the new urban quarter, but also the important entrance situation at the foot of the Lousberg.

Le Peuple Belge in Lille, France by Coldefy & Associés Architectes Ubranistes

Tuesday, September 24th, 2019

Article source: Coldefy & Associés Architectes Ubranistes

Facing the iconic monuments which are the 17th century Hospice-Comtesse and the Marcel Spender and Jean Willerval 1970s High Court buildings, the Peuple Belge building, with its contemporary style, is playing a part in the regeneration of the Vieux-Lille neighbourhood.

Le Peuple Belge is built on a 515 m² corner lot, integrated into the urban island and rising, over six floors, to a height of 21 metres. It offers a mix of functions – restaurants, hospitality, and accommodation. The first floor is home to gastronomic restaurant Le Cerisier and the level below is occupied by the adjoining brasserie, La Griotte. Both of them, alongside the Les Nids guest rooms on the upper floors, are managed by Michelin-starred chef Eric Delerue, who establishes Le Cerisier en Ville as a unique location combining fine dining, design and culture. The building’s top four floors form a multi-dwelling unit with generous terraces and loggias.

200 Pittwater Road in Australia by CHROFI

Tuesday, August 6th, 2019

Article source: CHROFI

CHROFI has converted a nondescript 1980’s commercial building into a thriving mixed-use development comprised of five, three-bedroom, loft apartments sitting above ground floor commercial premises.

The existing building presented an overly wide street address that was incongruent with the scale of the rest of the street. The setback of the existing building from the road also created a poorly defined and out of scale pedestrian experience, preventing the building from meaningfully contributing to the life of the street and the nearby ‘five ways’ intersection.

Enchante in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea by IGASO architects & planners

Wednesday, July 24th, 2019

Article source: IGASO architects & planners

Enchante

The form, space, and skin of architecture are often determined by general inertia.

Forms have pursued efficiency, sensitivity to space has been overlooked, and the envelope has been a universally reasonable way. The aspects of modern architecture have been customary for a long time, and are already too entrenched to be a product that reflects the culture and social values of the present era.

The ENCHANTE considered accidental use in the extra space created by the inefficiency of form, expected abundance in the inconsistent inner and outer space where the circle is interpenetrated, and expressed the sensibility of architecture as an unarchitectural elements, the pouring art technique worked by architectural officials with their’s own hands.

I hope architecture the ENCHANTE will become a special a shelter and a place.

Holland Boulevard and Rijksmuseum Schiphol in Amsterdam, The Netherlands by NEXT ARCHITECTS

Monday, July 22nd, 2019

Article source: NEXT ARCHITECTS

You can wander through the Dutch polder landscape while at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The landscape was the main source of inspiration behind the new Holland Boulevard, an international departures hall designed by NEXT architects and that now comprises various typical Dutch-inspired sitting rooms. These rooms are separated by low walls; together, they form the horizon of this vast space of 5,000 m2. Each room has its own atmosphere and ambiance and so the Holland Boulevard takes visitors on a real voyage of discovery.

SHUM YIP UpperHills LOFT in Shenzhen, China by URBANUS

Tuesday, July 9th, 2019

Article source: URBANUS

This base is a high-end commercial complex with 6 high-rise towers containing offices, hotels and business apartments. Adjacent to the CBD district, it is also located between two central parks in Shenzhen. URBANUS’ design task was to construct a 100,000 m2 loft of apartments and offices on top of a shopping center larger than 60,000 m2.

To release the enormous pressure from the vertical dimension of the high-rise tower, we take advantage of the large area of the LOFTs, creating two artificial mountain volumes, in response to the huge scale of the towers. At the same time, the design connects the project to the natural form of the surrounding Lianhua and Bijia Mountains. This design also encloses a quiet space, by connecting the 3-4 level high-density office LOFT through exquisite sidewalks, creating a small town with rich spatial variation. There are also some public spaces, such as the LOFT Theater and the Trading & Exhibition Center that gradually transform the “big” and “solid” periphery space to the “small” and “dynamic” inner region. The Loft Town has accommodated a shopping mall, business offices and apartments, creating a new model of settlement which integrates residents, offices, shopping malls and cultural spaces.

100 Mount Street in Sydney, Australia by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), Architectus, and Dexus Property Group

Thursday, July 4th, 2019

Article source: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), Architectus, and Dexus Property Group

On June 19th, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), Architectus, and Dexus Property Group, along with Australian civic and business leaders, marked the the completion and opening of 100 Mount Street, a 39-story glass-enclosed mixed-use tower in the heart of North Sydney’s Central Business District.

The design for 100 Mount was inspired by Sydney’s rich architectural landscape and shaped by SOM’s legacy of innovation in architecture and engineering worldwide. Evocative of SOM’s design for the John Hancock Center, 100 Mount is supported by an innovative cross-braced exoskeleton structure. Anchored by an offset core and clad in a soaring glass curtain wall, the tower offers panoramic views of Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Opera House, and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The tower’s interiors are designed to maximise daylight and open space, with 6-metre column-free zones to the north and south.

T20 Building in Shanghai, China by Jacques Ferrier Architecture

Wednesday, June 26th, 2019

Article source: Jacques Ferrier Architecture

Paris, Lisbon and Shanghai-based practices Jacques Ferrier Architecture and Sensual City Studio have turned what could have been an ordinary ‘office plus car park’ into an opportunity to radically reassess the surrounding urban district of Xujiahui in Shanghai.

  • A radical reimagining of a densely urban site on Shanghai busiest intersection
  • The project features elevated planted pedestrian walkways above the street
  • An ‘urban oasis’ from which to observe the dynamic scene below

The resulting structure, on the site of a former hotel, combines office, civic, commercial and cultural space with green ribbons of public walkways, connecting the streets and buildings of China’s busiest intersection with peaceful arteries from which to escape the tumult.
