Specific location- center of the quarter, which is formed by different stylistics discordant buildings, presupposed a simple circular shape- the form that unites surrounding various periods of architecture. It’s round white facade not only gives sense of lightness to a relatively big volume of a building, but also highlights a valuable historic building- Palanga kurhauz, by forming a contrast background to it.
Designed by Graz architect Volker Giencke, the Great Amber Concert Hall has been inaugurated on 7 November in Liepaja, Latvia. The first – and most momentous – phase of this multistage project envisioning the construction of a cultural urban district is thus completed. In 2003, Volker Giencke won the international architectural competition for a new cultural centre in this traditional seaport on the Baltic Sea. The construction work started in 2013.
The auditorium’s duality arises from the contradiction of its site. On the edge of town, the auditorium faces two realities: the beauty of the coastal landscape and the harsh and fragmented urban context.
The Philarmonic Hall, which is to accommodate a concert hall and a chamber music hall , is a very complex building that occupies the same space as the former music building. This is a synthetic project that shares identifying traits with its surrounding context. Mass, versatility and the shape of the roof-lines are dominant, connecting the hall with the rest of the city.
NOMADE architects recently delivered the project for rehabilitation and extension of the “Hippodrome de la Baie racecourse in Yffiniac”, a few kilometers from the downtown Saint-Brieuc, in Brittany. The ArenA Boulevard, the heart of Amsterdam Southeast, is a key area of Amsterdam and greatly influences the appearance of the city as an international cultural, economic and tourist center. The boulevard is intended primarily for entertainment, shopping and a combination of sport, leisure, play and recreation. With easy access via train, bus and metro and surrounded by highways it is the ideal location for the Ziggo Dome, the Netherlands’ latest concert hall for 17,000 spectators.

This cultural centre was designed by the Viennese architectural studio Coop Himmelb(l)au as a combined school and concert hall: its open structure promotes the exchange between the audience and artists, and the students and teachers. “The idea behind the building can already be read from the outer shape. The school embraces the concert hall,” explained Wolf D. Prix, design principal and CEO of Coop Himmelb(l)au.
