Transformation of Medellin, education and culture have been the main platform for true social changes, where physical infrastructures are essential in the inclusion of quality policies in areas where state hasn’t been before and low levels of human development are common. These spaces are operated from Educational Ministry and Citizen Culture, seeking mainly to improve the education quality to reduce dropout and repetition rates in early grades in elementary school. This project it’s about how to contribute to citizen encounter, integrating these infrastructures to the city, to its inhabitants and the recovery of public space.

Ryerson University Student Learning Centre in Toronto, Canada by Snøhetta

Wednesday, April 20th, 2016

Article source: The American Institute of Architects (AIA)

Toronto’s Ryerson University is widely known for its engineering and business programs, but as an urban commuter campus it was missing sorely needed space for students to remain on campus to study or relax between classes. The school also struggled with its identity within the city as the majority of its academic spaces are housed in the existing urban fabric or are set back from the city’s major streets. The new Student Learning Center solves both of those issues by providing critically needed space for students, bridging the gap between the Ryerson Library and Archives, and weaving the school into the vibrant cityscape that surrounds it.

Sunday, January 24th, 2016

Article source: Made in Earth ONLUS

Vellore House hosts twenty abandoned and parentless children in support to a special care program that follows deprived children from early childhood and beyond in education and training. The project layout was defined through a participative process that has allowed to solve the main issues of this special family: children feel protected and free to play, while the mummy can watch them confidently. Functions are divided into five volumes arranged in order to form two little courtyards. In the center, under a wide flat roof, the dining and gathering space can be completely opened up on two sides.
