Education Center for the University of Cordoba in Spain by Rafael de La-Hoz

Saturday, July 5th, 2014

Article source: Rafael de La-Hoz

Cubic form and zero gravity, the Vial-Norte UCO building is the result of the combination of massive volumes with light spaces.

Located in a trapezoid-shape plot, as part of Renfe 2 Masterplan – one of the urban extensions of Cordoba, (Spain), the building seems dramatically weightless, highlighted by the emphasis on the contrast of the façades: glass and concrete.

KCEV Krkonose Mountains Centre for Environmental Education in Vrchlabí, Czech Republic by Petr Hájek Architekti

Tuesday, July 1st, 2014

Article source: Petr Hájek Architekti

The building is situated into a city park in front of the administration building of KRNAP (Krkonoše Mts. National Park). The building geometry is derived from the geometry of Krkonoše Mountains. Every edge or slope on the building could be found in its real, natural topography. In between of the metal vectors, which represent the mountain ridges, there is growing sedum. The new building is set apart from the existing one to create an entrance platform.

“Russian Character” Culture & Education Center in Moscow, Russia by Toshihiro KUBOTA + Francisco MARTINEZ

Friday, June 13th, 2014

Article source: Toshihiro KUBOTA + Francisco MARTINEZ

Urban Strategy

Organization of the plot

Following the study of the environment and the articulation of the different axis and public spaces, we notice that the plot of the project is strategically located on the southeast corner of the large central park district, center of the urban life. We wanted to make the building visible from the park, as it has the purpose to be open to the public, giving it an important role and an active participation in the inhabitants’ social life. For this reason, the building will be located on the north end of the parcel, so to strengthen and affirm the major urban axis in the wake of Butovo Park’s master planning. High urban vocation of the building and openness to the city will serve as a boost to the north-south and east-west avenues of the district. At the same time, this positioning ensures easy access for pedestrians and an efficient circulation for cars.
