B018 is a music club, a place of nocturnal survival.
In the early months of 1998, the B018 moved to the “Quarantaine”, on a site that was better known for its macabre aura. The “Quarantaine” is located at the proximity of the port of Beirut. During the French protectorate, it was a place of quarantine for arriving crews. In the recent war it became the abode of Palestinian, Kurdish and South Lebanese refugees (20,000 in 1975). In January 1976, local militia men launched a radical attack that completely wiped out the area. The slums were demolished along with the kilometer long bordering wall that isolated the zone from the city. Over twenty years later, the scars of war are still perceptible through the disparity between the scarce urban fabric of the area and the densely populated neighborhoods located across the highway that borders the zone.
In 2011, the Gaumont-Pathé group decided to renovate the existing building in order to upgrade the cinemas and to improve user comfort. This was part of a broader scheme to gradually update the image of their chain of cinemas, which often occupy exceptional, city-centre sites, but suffered from being seen as old-fashioned.
The aim is to transform them into high-quality cultural venues, animated day and night, and suffi ciently fl exible to accommodate a varied programme, mixing cinema with other cultural events: the image of the city cinema was to be entirely rethought.

Powerhouse Company has completed its most recent project in Beijing, China. The project is located between JianWai SOHO and the Park Hyatt hotel. The site is the latest addition to John Portman’s Yintai Centre, and with a full glass facade it gives the project great exposure in the CBD area of Beijing.

Conceived as an architecture dedicated to sound experience, it is a noise cabin hosting people for a dense dancing event. This travelling sound system, in the Jamaican tradition, adapts to a diversity of situations and generates, through its architectural presence, a particular relation to the context where it stands. It is composed of loudspeakers, a DJ booth, a bar and an entrance. In its smaller configuration, it creates a perfect micro dancefloor for about 25 people, entirely enclosed buy the sound architecture.
A Buddhist retreat in the Suffolk countryside has reopened, designed by Walters & Cohen Architects. Potash Farm is home to Vajrasana Buddhist Retreat Centre; capacity has been increased from 34 to 60, accessibility improved and the centre now includes a glittering new shrine room. While the retreat is run by the London Buddhist Centre, it is also used for carers on respite and those dealing with issues such as stress, addiction and anxiety. It is the first time in the UK a new building has been designed specifically around the Buddhist practice as opposed to reusing existing buildings.

Patio is a phased project that brings a refreshing look at how to think and conceive a truly mixed-use development to the Northeast of Brazil. It consists of 40,000 sqm shopping and entertainment centre in a 3-storey podium interlinked with 2 office towers, 1 hotel and 4 residential apartment blocks. The master plan revolves around a central outdoor square and explores synergies, efficiency and convenience between the various components of the project suggesting a new and contemporary way to live, work and play.
Spira is twisted as a spiral to catch the attention of the eye as well as the body; transparent, to turn every side into a front; compact, to be efficient and sparse; meandering, to create expectation.
The performing arts centre Spira in the city of Jönköping is a regional scene for music and theater in the southern part of Sweden. It is a culturally vivid part of the country, but the performing arts have not had a permanent stage so far. Our proposal is a result of a winning competition from 2005 and the house was inaugurated on 11.11.11.
