Into the Wild in The Hague, Netherlands by Openfabric, Dmau

Wednesday, September 28th, 2016

Article source: Openfabric

Play is about finding ones place in the world and making sense of that world. We have created a plan that seeks to juxtapose two different worlds. The man made and the natural. The plan has an urban exterior and a wild natural interior, each space contains a different type of play.

Paradise City in Seoul, South Korea by MVRDV

Friday, July 29th, 2016

Article source: MVRDV

MVRDV have designed Paradise City, a 9,800m2 entertainment plaza which sits within a larger tourist hub just 10 minutes from Incheon Airport in Seoul. Two buildings shape a retail complex and a nightclub within fluid, yet monolithic, forms. Each of the buildings takes its profile from its surrounding family, becoming a concrete casting of the facades that look onto them. The square, marked by a giant golden spot, becomes a beacon to those flying into the city. The project is being undertaken in partnership with Gansam Architects who also designed the wider masterplan of the complex. Construction is envisaged to begin in September 2016 and to be completed by 2018.

The square consists of restaurants, cafes and a cultural arena to magnify the bustling life of the area both during and after closing times.

ORCHID CIRCUS in MIAMI by LUIS PONS DESIGN LAB

Friday, February 14th, 2014

Article source: LUIS PONS DESIGN LAB

The design and creation of a whimsical and sophisticated environmental installation at the site of the entertainment venue Orchid.

PROGRAM

The installation is an extension of the performance. A “Garden of Pleasure” starts at the initial view of the gateway location and continues to the peripheral fence. It culminates in the areas surrounding the “spiegeltent” and welcomes spectators before and after each performance. Several factors are considered in the design of the environmental installation of the Orchid venue. The aesthetics of the traditional “spiegeltent”, the iconic fences of nomadic circuses, and the essence of the venue, located in the celebrated Miami Design District, all contribute to the elegant and innovative installation.

Rod Stewart to open The SSE Hydro, a major new entertainment venue for Scotland

The SSE Hydro, Scotland’s largest purpose-built public event arena, will open to the public with a concert by Rod Stewart on 30 September. Its free spanning roof of 120 metres, large enough to encompass Glasgow’s Queen Street railway station, encloses a highly flexible amphitheatre for an audience of up to 13,000. Externally, the arena is wrapped in lightweight translucent panels taking the excitement of the concert to the city – the whole building can be illuminated to glow as a beacon of colour on the waterfront.
