Palazzo del Cinema di Locarno in Locarno, Switzerland by AZPA

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

Article source: AZPA

Our proposal for the future Palazzo del Cinema di Locarno aims to build a physical structure that will constitute the urban identity of the Locarno Film Festival. The project aims to bring together the infrastructural needs of the Locarno Film Festival, the pre-existent physical structure of the Palazzo Scolastico and the Piazza Remo Rossi to synthesise a structure which will capture the presence of the Film Festival within the city of Locarno. The Locarno Film Festival does not have yet a recognizable home within the city, and the complex of the Palazzo Scolastico and the Piazza Remo Rossi represents a great opportunity to encrust the Film Festival within an urban structure which has already deep affective relations to the Locarno citizens, and a significant presence in today’s cityscape. We hope that our project will be able to intensify both the presence of the Film Festival and the City of Locarno.

Nearly twenty years after the debut of their multi-faceted MBK Entertainment dynasty, company founders Jeff Robinson along with partners Jeanine Mclean, Misha Hedman and Suzette Williams have moved to expansive new offices and, created OZ, a world-class recording studio. The thriving multimedia company has honed a ‘methodical’ approach to talent development, a technique highlighted by the spectacular career of multi-Grammy-winner Alicia Keys and newcomer, Elle Varner (RCA).  Today MBK’s mission encompasses musical genres ranging from R&B to Rap and Pop, and includes marketing, publishing, TV, film and concert promotion divisions. In addition to Keys on the production side, the MBK talent roster boasts rising star, RCA recording artist Gabi Wilson, Daisha and blue-eyed soul artists Allen Stone and Anthony Hall.  The completion of the pivotal studio addition to the expanding company’s creative arsenal opens up a brand new option for MBK clients and independent artists.

Tiger & Turtle – Magic Mountain in Duisburg, Germany by Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Article source: Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth

Lately, the sleek curved shape of a rollercoaster highlights widely visible the highest peak of the park-‐like designed Heinrich Hildebrand Höhe in the South of Duisburg. The dynamic sweeps and curves of the construction inscribe themselves like a signature into the scenery and soar till the height of 21 meters. From a distance the metallic glossy track creates the impression of speed and exceeding acceleration. Viewed from close up, the supposed lane turns out to be a stairway which, elaborately winding, follows the course of the rollercoaster. The visitor can climb the art work by foot. Although the course describes a closed loop, it is impossible to accomplish it as the looping emerges to be a physical barrier. On top, at the highest point of the sculpture – 45 meters above ground – the visitor is rewarded with an extraordinary view over the landscape of the Western Ruhr.
