Torsby Finnskogscentrum in Värmland, Sweden by Bornstein Lyckefors arkitekter

Wednesday, June 14th, 2017

Article source: Bornstein Lyckefors arkitekter

Bornstein Lyckefors Architects has designed a museum and cultural center in an old school in the forest outside Torsby, Sweden. The museum pays tribute to slash-burn agriculture Finns who settled deep into the forests in the early 1600s.

The facade consists of 300 logs that has been cut down in the woods surrounding the museum. They are decorticated, untreated, cleaved in half, and mounted on a rack surrounding the building, Image Courtesy © Bornstein Lyckefors arkitekter

What could a natural history museum of the 21st century look like? The special exhibition of the Academy for Architectural Culture (aac) in the Zoological Museum, Hamburg, provides some answers. In the context of the Evolutioneum workshop, scholarship students of the aac have produced designs in two parts, which are on display at the Zoological Museum, Hamburg, until 27 August. The Evolutioneum is a museum concept which builds a bridge between science and the public, and which also provides space for natural science collections and exhibitions.

‘Living in Space’ exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany by UNStudio

Wednesday, June 14th, 2017

Article source: UNStudio

For the Techtextil ‘Living in Space’ exhibition UNStudio and MDT-tex have created Prototype II, a modular shelter which envisions how we might one day live on the moon or on Mars. The design is inspired by foldable structures and the need for lightweight and compact transport into space. In the Techtextil installation the self-supporting pavilion serves as a space in which guests can experience a trip to Mars in virtual reality – as represented by co-exhibitors the European Space Agency (ESA) and the German Aerospace Centre (DLR).

Shop and Exhibition Space in Marseille, France by Atelier M3a Architectes

Thursday, May 11th, 2017

Article source: Atelier M3a Architectes

Time had taken its toll on the place. We proceeded like archeologists and we removed layer after layer until we found the spirit of the original building, a brick tiled floor and stone and brick walls that must have been more than 150 years old.

These old materials serve as a reminder of what the place used to be. We wanted to preserve them as soon as we discovered them.

Article source: AL_A

MAAT, the new Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, is an outward-looking museum located on the banks of the Tagus in Belém, the district from where the Portuguese great explorers set off. Proposing a new relationship with the river and the wider world, the kunsthalle is a powerful yet sensitive and low-slung building that explores the convergence of contemporary art, architecture and technology.

The new building is the centrepiece of EDP Foundation’s masterplan for an art campus that includes the repurposed Central Tejo power station.
