A Scaffolding System for a Temporary Facility in Barcelona, Spain by peris+toral.arquitectes

Sunday, October 23rd, 2016

Article source: peris+toral.arquitectes

In response to both the temporality of the facility and the context where is located, Peris+Toral stands up for a detachable and reusable construction that minimizes the trace on the territory: a scaffolding system as structure and formal solution of the project.

This temporary facility built a year ago by the Catalan practice Peris+Toral, is part of the provisional urbanization of the Glòries Square in Barcelona. With this project, the studio reasserts a new way of working and enhances its search for new solutions and constructive processes.

Automobile Museum in Nanjing, China by 3GATTI Architecture Studio

Sunday, October 9th, 2016

Article source: 3GATTI Architecture Studio

“Car Experience” is a project for a building to be dedicated to the automobile:  the car as an object of desire, a world to explore, a technology to study, an article to display  and a means to travel around the building.

Here the world of the automobile intersects with the human and organic world creating a new tectonic structure with methods differing from the usual flat open spaces, squares… all on a human scale.  Here everything is geared to the automobile – the car is the point of reference.

Franz Kafka Society Center in Prague, Czech Republic by STEVEN HOLL ARCHITECTS

Sunday, May 1st, 2016

Article source: STEVEN HOLL ARCHITECTS

The basement of the small one-story building, formerly used for laundry and storage, now houses a space for exhibitions, lectures, and concerts, as well as it accommodates Franz Kafka’s private library. On the first level of the building the Franz Kafka Society has located its offices. The previously dark and dismal spaces of the building are now washed in daylight coming through newly inserted windows and skylights that provide unexpected views to the towers of the Maisel Synagogue. Marcela Steinbachová (Skupina) and Steven Holl Architects have deliberately situated these windows off axis to the interiors. Inside the building new visual connections through openings and inspection holes give its small spaces depth and create visual connections.

Tuesday, April 5th, 2016

Article source: mamen domingo ¡! ernest ferré arquitectes

The exhibition tells the public the history of one hundred years of the School of Library Science in Catalonia since the founding moment with Prat de la Riba and the conception of Eugeni d’Ors, his defining moment in the Commonwealth of Catalonia, their stages of continuity in both military dictatorships, to its positioning in the educational landscape of democracy. Nonetheless, its main idea is to convey the ability to renew of this profession and therefore their educational environment within the context of the University of Barcelona, being today a dynamic and future focused profession, linked to the many changes that occur around books and records management.

House of Bread – Wunderkammer in Asten, Austria by COOP HIMMELB(L)AU

Friday, March 25th, 2016

Article source: COOP HIMMELB(L)AU

The Customer Information Centre and Event Forum “Haus des Brotes” (“House of Bread) for the company Backaldrin in Asten consists of two elements: a box shaped plinth building with foyer and event rooms plus the “Wunderkammer des Brotes”, a two storey freeform exhibition area floating on top. The chosen materials augment the contrast of these two elements: The square base building shows a cast-in-place concrete façade while the rounded wood structure of the museum is clad with stainless steel shingles.
