Article source: COBE

The Red Cross Volunteer House is an extension of the national headquarters of Red Cross in Denmark in Copenhagen. The triangular building has a 850-m2 roof that acts as a large public staircase extending from the street level to the second floor of the building. The extension, which has a floorspace of 750 m2, is placed partially below ground and serves as the main entrance to both the headquarters and the volunteer centre. The Red Cross Volunteer House was designed with the ambition of creating a new meeting place for the 34,000 Red Cross volunteers as well as a new public space – an urban living room that gives something back to the city. The Crystal – Kiruna Town Hall in Kiruna, Sweden by Henning Larsen Architects

Thursday, January 10th, 2019

Article source: Henning Larsen Architects

The Swedish town of Kiruna, 95 miles north of the Arctic Circle, sits atop the largest iron ore mine on the planet. The mine birthed Kiruna – And now, it threatens to erase it.

A century of mining operations has begun to destabilize the earth around Kiruna. The ground is breaking, splitting into deep rifts and falling into sinkholes – Within the century, these rifts threaten to swallow the town. In response to this threat, mining firm Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara (LKAB) has proposed a direct solution: Move Kiruna three kilometers east.

X ROOM by TED in Rome, Italy by STRATO | architettura design

Sunday, January 6th, 2019

Article source: STRATO | architettura design

The X-Room is a concept room inside TED burger and lobster. It is an open space complementary to the restaurant project. The room is a secret club, a bar, an event and exhibition space: a true cultural and artistic venue. The design of the space is inspired by the Eighties, and combines different elements: elegant and refined mirror cladding, velvet upholstered seatings and curtains are apposed with rough textures of construction materials voluntarily left unfinished. Grey walls are a perfect support for the colored lighting effects which continuously change the mood and atmosphere of the room.

Stand Modulos in Mexico by Local 10 Arquitectura

Friday, January 4th, 2019

Article source: Local 10 Arquitectura

In Modulos Stand a dynamic and urban ambiance is perceived. The wide variety of gray shades that form the color palette stands out in the elements that enhance the façade intensifying the movement of the different geometries selected to catch the visitor’s eye from the first impact.

A space where the first impression is a comfort and cozy feeling was seek and achieved by the selection of neutral colors that create an attractive contrast between the hallway and what is happening inside. The height creates an excellent perspective to appreciate the product selection displayed flat and in overlapped modules that give the necessary depth to analyze in detail each collection.

Geometry and the contrast of dark and light shades are the two elements in which Local 10 Arquitectura team focused for this stand project, where as always the needs of the exhibitor and visitors were considered attaining the perfect balance between impact, functionality and operation.

Design Museum Houston in Texas by MA2

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2019

Article source: MA2

“Geometry in motion” is a paradigm in which the architectural language and tectonic manifestations of an object gain resonance and operate within the duality of presence and context. This type of poly-performative structure can be contextualized within the directives of Kinematic Viscosity, the analytics and mechanics of motion within points, (bodies) objects, & systems. The project examines this Kinematic play of horizontal fluctuations and the bifurcation in massing components. By creating a dynamic system that operates as a continuous fluid body, the plan of operation and multifunctional programs flow and overlap creating a hybrid composite of boundaries and tectonics. This allows both a separation and opportunities of intermingling for display and exhibition layout. The dual function of the architecture is to display art and various fields of design objects for the greater education of design appreciation, in its methods, technique, and meaning.  As a project of speculation on growing cities and dynamic architecture, this concept proposal situates itself within a park setting of Houston, Texas. As an urban city like Houston continuously grows and expands its museums and art culture, the proposal is to accommodate the growing and emergent design youth as a place to engage the discipline of production and aesthetics.
