Dogok Maximum in Seoul, Korea by Moon Hoon

Friday, January 20th, 2017

Article source: Moon Hoon

It reflects the client’s personality in a frank manner. Considering that the client, who had dreamt all kinds of mysterious dreams only to overcome them while living in a house built on a rock of mystical forces at a high area of Gangbuk, Seoul, purchased the plot of a fortuneteller and a shaman beside a tall wall in Gangnam, this is a world that must be full of many unexplainable things. In contemporary terms, this building would be considered a mixed-use narrow house, combining a basement studio for the client’s son, a photographer, a reception area, as well as a residence for mother and son that has been equipped with a compact elevator to account for the weakened joints of the elderly.

Domus Aurea in Nuevo León, México by GLR Arquitectos in collaboration with architect Alberto Campo Baeza

Friday, January 20th, 2017

Article source: GLR arquitectos

Placed in one of the most exclusive and privileged zones of Monterrey with an incomparable view towards the “Sierra Madre Oriental”, we found the “Sorteo Tec’s House 202”.

The residence is a tribute to Barragán, a great Mexican architect in whose designs abounds the strong presence of the light. This brightness is being reinterpreted in the project with a stunning wall covered in a golden sheet, which is also a tribute to another great artist named Mathias Goeritz.
Its shinning gives the home a magical touch that extends across the entire building, like a modern Domus Aurea.

Article source: Rivero Rolny Arquitectos

“Structure as space designer”

Structure stops hiding behind the drawing and comes out to participate as the main character of the play.

Based on the structure performance, everything occurs. The stage combines different but simple lines, materials, forms and senses.

Matola House in Elche, España by Jaime Sepulcre Arquitecturas

Tuesday, January 17th, 2017

Article source: Jaime Sepulcre Arquitecturas

This house is a hybrid of several types of houses: first of all the first thing it wants is to be a “house of the Camp d’Elx”, as those still populate the rural districts with its peculiar silhouette, whose traditional architecture makes use of ceramic decks inclined and the deep porches -for shade- oriented at noon; But at the same time it also wants to be a “house-patio Mediterranean”, introverted, protected from the outside and purely white; And also has in its genetics a “Californian house”, one of those sophisticated houses of the admired modern architecture of Los Angeles -with whom we share Mediterranean climate- that unfold their plants -many L shaped- in open horizontal spaces which overlook the gardens and the refreshing swimming pools.

House Vlijmen in Netherlands by Jan Couwenberg Architectuur

Tuesday, January 17th, 2017

Article source: Jan Couwenberg Architectuur

In the village of Vlijmen this house was designed for an elderly couple, who wanted to keep on living in this house as long as possible. Therefore, most of the program is located on ground level, on top only a spare bed- and bathroom are being made. The box from the ground level is being perforated with voids, where a small patio, wooden Western Red Cedar parts, or windows were made. By making this rhythm, a car port and patio-shaped exteriors give the house an extra layer between in- and outside.

Article source: Sarsayeh Architectural Office

For those people who have a long experience of living in single-unit houses with a courtyard, it is a great challenge to change their life style and live in apartment houses.

Losing many of desirable advantages of single unit houses such as independency, fellowship with nature, existence of hierarchy and, natural ventilation and … is a trouble for the people who want to live apartment units.

Duplex & the City in Sydney, Australia by Luigi Rosselli Architects

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

Article source: Luigi Rosselli Architects

Equivalent to the brownstones of New York, this interwar duplex is a humane scale solution to housing in the Sydney city fringes.

Shoulder to shoulder with other apartment buildings, the original 1920s two-storey flats were transformed into a four storey block with a basement carpark and cellar, a ground floor garden apartment and a two-storey penthouse.

The scissor balconies of the back elevation are angled to offer side views while maintaining the building’s rear alignment with the neighbouring properties. The Council thought but resisted the tempation to emacitate the elevation by cutting it back to a flat façade. Sydney City Council is a design intelligent council, a rare thing in that level of authority, Image Courtesy © Edward Birch

Moradia Gafanha da Boavista in Portugal by Arch. Adalberto Dias

Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

Article source: Arch. Adalberto Dias

The plot in Gafanha da Boavista is narrow and long.

The program was interesting and not vulgar for a single family dwelling.

The clients, young couple formed in the Nordic countries, had a different concept of life and another notion of family structure and their relationships.

Three spaces and a corridor, in three volumes, was the concept of the project.
