Feisteinveien in Stavanger, Norway by Rever & Drage Architects

Friday, July 4th, 2014

Article source: Rever & Drage Architects

This extension to a single-family house in Stavanger was made to make room for a growing family in a city which has become increasingly dense over the last decades due to the economic boom related to the area’s oil industry. The building authorities accepted extension beyond original restrictions but wanted a modern expression, and found common ground with the architects in letting the existing building be preserved as a clear and city-typical shape. Stavanger has also recently been host to the Norwegian Wood project, part of Stavanger 2008 – European City of Culture, and there is reason to believe that the municipal authorities in Stavanger has achieved a more clear and mature architectural policy through the specific focus which that project gave.

Simple brief: I want to live in a small house on a small plot at a reasonable price. Budget was fixed at € 75.000. I am still remembering last summer on the countryside. Could we recycle the typology, morphology, even decor of Slovakian rural architecture?

Family house Palkovice in Frýdek-Místek, Czech Republic by QARTA ARCHITEKTURA

Saturday, February 22nd, 2014

Article source: QARTA ARCHITEKTURA

The house is situated in the periphery of Palkovice, nearby Frýdek Místek. From this site is the view of the Beskydy mountains. The first idea was to reconstruct the old house on this parcel. The original house was situated in the middle of the garden and the architecture of the house was a product of the nineties of the 20th century. After a long effort to modify the old house and to adapt it for the new requirements, we have find out, this is not the right way. So we have decided to build a new house.

EEUU 4263 BUILDING in Buenos Aires, Argentina by BAK arquitectos

Saturday, October 19th, 2013

Exhibited at the XIII Biennale of Architecture in Venice, August 2012

MEMORY

The Place

We had to build an apartment building in a land of 8.66m of width in Boedo, a zone of Buenos Aires that, without loosing the typical characteristics of neighborhood, has been changing its physiognomy because of the urban densification. The particularly of the land in where we have to intervene is that its back yard is adjacent with an urban square, with an important vegetation where is placed a football school and a small square. The views to this green lung match with the best orientation: the North.

CASA Y in Torino, Italy by F:L architetti

Wednesday, September 11th, 2013

Article source: F:L architetti

Set on the hills just outside the city of Turin, CASA Y is a family house designed for a professional couple with 3 children. Clients’ needs were very large spaces devoted to family life and a low-impact energy and house.

Tucked into the hillside, this discreet volume consists in the juxtaposition of two simple parallelepipeds, one in fair-faced concrete and the other in glass covered with cor-ten steel. Concrete and cor-ten are a stylistic choice and a functional one, the answer to the client’s need of ease of maintenance and long-term durability.
