2009 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate by Peter Zumthor

Peter Zumthor of Switzerland was chosen as the 2009 Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. The formal ceremony for what has come to be known throughout the world as architecture’s highest honor was held on May 29 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At that time, a $100,000 grant and a bronze medallion was bestowed on the 65-year old architect.

Monument to witchcraft trial victims in Vardø, Norway by Peter Zumthor and Louise Bourgeois

The Steilneset memorial opened on June 23, 2011. The memorial is part of the National Tourist Routes project, and was one of the last, major installations designed by the groundbreaking French-American artist Louise Bourgeois.

The art installation in Vardø in the north of Norway was a collaborative effort between Louise Bourgeois and architect Peter Zumthor. Louise Bourgeois passed away in May 2010.

Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2011 in London, UK by Peter Zumthor

The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2011 is designed by world-renowned Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. This year’s Pavilion is the 11th commission in the Gallery’s annual series, the world’s first and most ambitious architectural programme of its kind. It is the architect’s first completed building in the UK and includes a specially created garden by the influential Dutch designer Piet Oudolf.

The Secular Retreat in South Devon by Peter Zumthor

A space dedicated to calm, reflection and perspective, The Secular Retreat is a veritable haven from the pressures of modern life.

In South Devon, between the resorts of Salcombe and Hallsands, lies a landscape of rolling hills, wooded river valleys, patchwork fields and small stone villages. It is here that Zumthor is designing his first project in the UK – The Secular Retreat, a hill-top retreat, where people will be able to go for periods of sustained work and reflection.
