VMS House in Leon, Spain by Marcos Miguelez

Thursday, November 22nd, 2018

Article source: Marcos Miguelez

Placed on a triangular plot on the outskirts of a small town, the house is surrounded by lands of mixed uses. A small orchard of fruit trees borders it on the one side, a small dirt road on another and a street in front of the main facade.

The building is presented as a heavy body built in stone, adapted to the geometry of the plot. A small volume rests above it creating a mezzanine inside. The building reinterprets the essence of traditional masonry great thick stone walls, which solidly protects the domestic space.

Article source: Anastasia Arquitetos

The LD residence is situated in Nova Lima, a mountanious town neighbour to Belo Horizonte, Brasil. The building site has an average 34 degrees transversal inclination and 12 degrees in the longitudinal direction, with 3400 square meters.

By situating the main part of the residence in the longitutinal direction, it was possible to create a more harmonious implantation on the site, thus avoidind giant walls and disproportionate structures, which is quite common in the neighbourhood.

The Park at South Market in New Orleans, Louisiana by Eskew+Dumez+Ripple

Thursday, October 25th, 2018

Article source: Eskew+Dumez+Ripple

The Park is a six-story hybrid structure, which merges a 441-space parking garage with 27,000-square-feet of street-level retail. Located in the booming Warehouse District of downtown New Orleans, The Park captures the aesthetic rigor of the existing 19th century warehouses, while rethinking this overly conventional building typology and its construction methods. At 205,000-square-feet, The Park blends in and adapts to an evolving hub of urban activity, while tastefully preserving the style of the surrounding historic neighborhood.

Pacaembu Residence in São Paulo, Brazil by DMDV arquitetos

Monday, October 22nd, 2018

Article source: DMDV arquitetos

The starting point of this project was the analysis of the feasibility of maintaining the original construction in the lot, considering a deep reform, or the complete demolition to build a new residency.

After studying the brief desired by the future residents, the implantation of the old house and the analysis of the structural system of the existing construction that did not allow great interventions, we concluded that we would achieve a better result considering the conception of a new residence.

Edificio VH in Xalapa, Mexico by BCA Taller de Diseño

Tuesday, September 11th, 2018

Article source: BCA Taller de Diseño

The main challenge for this 3 apartment’s project was a combination of an ambitious architectural program and a plot with limited dimensions. The 106 sq m of land were maximized to have all the necessary services for the building inhabitants.

Concrete frame was chosen as construction system to avoid the use of columns, creating more spacious areas. Mobile wooden panels were used for the interiors of each apartment to open or close both integrating and isolating the spaces creating suitable environments for the different activities.
