Namur Province Administrative Centre in Belgium by Philippe SAMYN and PARTNERS sprl, architects & engineers

Article source: Philippe SAMYN and PARTNERS sprl, architects & engineers

Sponsor’s vision

Province Administration is bringing almost all its services together in one building to be constructed at its Salzinnes site. By establishing itself on the outskirts and at the edge of the Sambre River rather than in a high-profile city centre Namur Province has plumped for a high-impact yet sensitive position, to reflect how it regards its role.

This site should act as a city-level focal point with the outlying area serving to complement the centre. Consequently, the idea is to create a structure that has the ability to generate a deep affection for this new intellectual centre in Namur.

The image that springs to mind is of a village centre reflecting the province’s rurality and symbiotic relationship with nature. An invitation to our five senses to experience pleasure through the channel of art and culture.

The construction of the Namur Province Administrative Centre (MAP) will involve huge financial and environmental costs. The project seeks to obtain the maximum number of BREEAM credits, while highlighting the limits of this approach, as well as the questions raised. The project achieves a score of 93.53 %, or 8.53 margin points above “Outstanding” level.

Catalan Government Headquarters in Tarragona, Spain by Estudio Carme Pinós

Monday, March 4th, 2019

Article source: Estudio Carme Pinós

Our project is located in the middle of an old and compact urban area where historical buildings are lined up with the streets. We didn’t want to break this rhythm so we have also chosen to line up with the main street.

The shape of the building and its inclined façades respond to the wish of creating three articulated squares, more adapted to the neighborhood character, instead of a big square which, due to the scarce architectonic value of the adjacent buildings, we believe inappropriate.

The aim of the project is the development of a new building next to the existing Paphos District court building to provide additional court rooms alongside office space. The new building sits in the plot next to the existing court, which was previously used as a car park.

The design aims to create a continuation of the street elevation between the two buildings, inserting like an abstract form, which maintains the general scale of the street and the area and showcase the human scale as well. The proposed building extends lengthwise of the plot, using atriums to allow natural light enter the building.

Offices for Regional Government of Andalusia in Spain by Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos

Sunday, November 25th, 2018

Article source: Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos

The project aims to provide a certain uniqueness and public character to the future headquarters of two government ministries, without lessening the required functional efficiency of a standard office building.

A homogeneous open hall of 12.40 metres, without intermediate columns, ideal for an administrative use, gives shape to the building bodies of eight intertwined floors, creating a singular figure. The building, which extends out to the perimeter of the site, defines the alignments of the streets without prejudicing neighbouring buildings.

Located on a prominent site in Kuwait City, the 300-metre-high headquarters tower for the National Bank of Kuwait will have a distinctive presence among the high-rise buildings of Sharq, the city’s growing financial district. The design combines structural innovation with a highly efficient passive form, shielding the offices from the extremes of Kuwait’s climate, where temperatures average 40 degrees in the summer months.

LR1 – Provincial Government Office in Erlangen, Germany by AllesWirdGut

Wednesday, October 17th, 2018

Article source: AllesWirdGut

With this significant building AllesWirdGut marks the structural upgrading of this part of the inner city of Erlangen in Bavaria. The new Provincial Government Office forms the pivotal element of the district development. The development responds to regional and supraregional relations and links important inner-city connections. Several finger-like structures gather around an atrium and resemble a four-leaf clover. Open spaces are created around the building by moving the building from its immediate property lines, which complement and enhance the public space in terms of quality.

The design of the municipality community house ‘Het Klavier’ by M+R

“Noord-Brabant has around 400 community houses. They stand in villages and cities and are of great social importance for the liveability of a community. No community house is the same. They come in all shapes and sizes; not only offer relaxation, but are also meeting places, cultural temples or educational institutes “. For our office the challenge was / is how we can shape the house of the municipality of Loon op Zand. For each task we first look for the identity of the users; the municipalities and their residents or what is the DNA of the municipality of Loon op Zand.

New Ministry of Defense in Paris, France by ANMA

Friday, March 16th, 2018

Article source: ANMA

The new Ministry of Defence building  is a complex operation due to its dual urban and architectural nature. It is located on a 16.5-hectare site divided into three plots: the Victor plot to the east (8.5 hectares) is home to the Cité de l’Air, whose buildings have been either demolished or rehabilitated; the central Valin plot (8 hectares) is occupied by the ministry’s main building, and the western Corne Ouest plot is given over to a commercial real estate programme.

ANMA was tasked with coordinating the three plots, building the ministry’s main building (146,500 m²) and restructuring the Perret building on the Valin plot, as well as constructing two buildings on the Victor plot.
