Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik in Balkans by GODDARD LITTLEFAIR

Sunday, December 23rd, 2018

Article source: GODDARD LITTLEFAIR

Goddard Littlefair has completed the restoration of Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik, re-injecting golden age glamour into one of Europe’s most beautiful hotels to appeal to today’s cosmopolitan, sophisticated traveller. Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik, situated just above Dubrovnik old town, was originally built in the 1890s and went on to serve the great Mediterranean cruise liners docking in the city in the early 20th century. Then called ‘The Grand Hotel Imperial’, with a French Riviera feel and the glamorous cachet of an international clientele, the hotel was a roaring success for many decades, but, during the Yugoslav war, it was shelled and then used to house refugees. The hotel was subsequently brought back to active life in 2005.

‘When we were first commissioned’, commented Martin Goddard, Director and Co-founder of Goddard Littlefair, ‘the hotel was already very well established and incredibly popular, with a wonderful location overlooking the old fort and the Adriatic, right on the edges of Dubrovnik’s historic old centre. Whilst it had been majorly refurbished in 2005, costly building works meant that the interiors weren’t the main priority at that time and were primed therefore for a completely new treatment.’

Gloriette in Ritten, Italy by NOA* – NETWORK OF ARCHITECTURE

Article source: NOA* – NETWORK OF ARCHITECTURE

Gloriette Guesthouse: A travel through time

Gloriette Guesthouse by noa * builds on the tradition of summer holidays at Ritten and adds another link to the chain. On the Bozner’s favourite mountain, a house was created, in which city and country merge together.

The former small hotel business Bergfink, which was an anchor point in the village structure and nestled amidst the rural-urban structure with all its bourgeois domiciles, built by wealthy Bolzano merchants around the turn of the century, was demolished and a new jewel was created in its place. As the name suggests, it is a gem in the landscape, inspired by the architectural typology in timelessly, elegant Art Nouveau. With the feeling of an era in which, – not at all pompous – the architecture of the city in a simplified form and without giving up completely on luxury and comfort on the Ritten transposed – generous, classic, simple, but not sober.

Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura Headquarters in Desvern, Spain

Article source: Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura

I found enormous silos, a tall smokestack, four kilometres of underground tunnels, and machine rooms in good shape. This was twenty five years ago and it was my first encounter with the Cement Factory.

I already imagined future spaces and noticed that the different aesthetic and plastic tendencies that had developed since World War 1 were present in this factory.

Silena in Mühlbach, Italy by NOA* – NETWORK OF ARCHITECTURE

Monday, August 27th, 2018

Article source: NOA* – NETWORK OF ARCHITECTURE

Moors have always been mystical places full of secrets and drifting moods. The specific characteristic of such a genius loci served as the central design inspiration for noa*’s (network of architecture) project, which entailed the redesign and extension of the former “Moarhof” hotel at the end of the Valser valley, which is surrounded by moorland at about 1,300m altitude.

The result of this mystical transformation is the 4-star-S Hotel “Silena”. With its’ swamp-coloured, organically angular and integration into the landscape, it appears to be growing out of the unstable ground as a place of tranquillity, strength and soul, designed down to the smallest detail. The surrounding archaic nature as well as the southeast-asian touch of the interior and the extensive accompanying program, which was specially requested by the client, were the decisive factors for the final outcome.

Portushome Guesthouse in Kisdörgicse, Hungary by Barna Architects

Friday, August 10th, 2018

Article source: Barna Architects

The primary task of the design was to create a guest house that is connected to the local environment, which provides a native atmosphere by making use of  modern architectural elements. The secondary task was to create a space for the terrace that is in connection with the interior and can be one of the main living areas of the house.

The aim of the geometry and  the materials of the building was to connect the design to the site and create a native atmosphere. We planned to use traditional materials with a modern sense of design. The load bearing  structure is visible on the exterior of the building, that provides rhythm and arrangement to the facade system.

Amoroso Studio in Venice, California by MODAL DESIGN

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018

Article source: MODAL DESIGN

Celebrating a Client’s passion for collecting modern and video art yet supporting her needs for a functional studio and guest house, the Amoroso Studio is a truly inspired multi-functional space: part art backdrop, part guest loft, part utilitarian workroom.

A replacement for a termite-ridden garage behind a Craftsman home in Venice Beach, CA, the design of the 1,060 square foot studio was driven by the Client’s commitment to collecting video and film based works by emerging artists who delve into gender, identity and socio-political issues. As an executive in the entertainment industry, her support of young and evolving talent began, in part, from her time living in London near the Serpentine Gallery. When Modal Design was brought on board the Client specifically cited the Gallery and its temporary pavilions as moments of personal delight and intrigue.
