In ancient Greece, the Gymnasium was used to practice exercise, as a public bath, as a center for studies and as a common place for philosophers. The main idea of this project is to create a meeting place for the citizens. The building is configures into several exterior and interior areas where coexistence happens in a natural way. The project is divided into three parts, the first one, exterior, with a horizontal area ready to hold open air events. The second one defined as daily sports facilities, and the third one understood as the multipurpose gymnasium and spectators area, conceived as an area around the courts and directly linked to the park on the east side of the plot. The last part is the area with the common facilities such as dressing rooms, cafeteria and offices, all of them organized around those three main areas, ensuring the proper functioning of the building.
Old becomes new
The task comprised restructuring and extending the old school for forest wardens from the 1970s in order to create a contemporary educational institution. the old residential wing was demolished because of the building’s structure and its low ceiling height. the concrete rubble was used as subgrade for the new building. The classroom wing and the gym hall could be preserved and were expanded by another set of classrooms and a large gym hall. the four building parts are grouped equitably around the new one-storey centre of the school.
The building, measuring 3,800m2, designed by the architectural studio SCAPE, is located at the southern end of ZAC (urban development zone) at Porte des Lilas, and has among its main objectives that of transforming the relationship between the city of Paris within the Boulevard Périphérique and the districts on the outside.
Up & Down DIR was a special project. Sara Folch Interior Design was in charge of the design of an old disco into a new luxury gym in the city of Barcelona, Spain. The old disco was an emblematic place in the town and it had a lot of fame.
The project is located in Saertu District of Daqing City, with the north of the district facing the government buildings and to its west flows the Liming River. The total site area is about 170,000 square meters. The design assignment includes semi-detached house, 6 floor residence, high-rise residence and commercial communities, kindergartens, gymnasiums, underground garage space and ancillary equipment.

This project was for the design of the common areas of the residential complex Skyview located in Colonia del Valle in Mexico City. The spaces are: lobby, gym, children area, SPA, swimming pool and general circulations. The result maintains the contemporary atmosphere of all the complex, but with special elements for each area to create the individual functionality of each one.
Smena fitness club in the za bor architects portfolio is the third sports-related project and the first realize object of this type. A private client who turned to the bureau with this project, wanted to create a large stylish club with high quality equipment and original design. Reasonable prices, due to refusing from many side services offered by network clubs, were to become the main competitive advantage. Thus, an expressional dynamic design created by za bor architects, was meant to become one of the client-attracting factors, a kind of competitive edge of this club.
The time-honored brick building of the Toldy High School was built on the slope of the Castle Hill in 1859 in neo-gothic style. The neighboring plot was designated for the extension of the school with a gymnasium.
The new building consists of four functional units: gymnasium, lobby, changing rooms, medical wing.
Following the 2012 earthquake that struck Emilia Romagna a competition was announce to rebuild a destroyed school gymnasium in Massa Finalese.
The site, which is located in the north-east side of a school park, is the border between the urban area and the country side, suggesting the new building to be the new “connecting tool” between these two realities.
