The owner of Hardio is a lawyer and a sports fan. He had a dream about a place where he and his friends could cycle indoors in any weather conditions. He also wanted to create a space for practicing yoga and meditation. Sunday, February 23rd, 2020

Article source: GFD

Some people say “If the West Lake is the symbol of Hangzhou City, the Grand Canal is definitely the essence.”

Comparing to the alluring and famous West Lake, the Grand Canal that flows quietly for ages seems more representative of the locals’ daily life.

Served as the main artery between northern and southern China, the Grand Canal not only boosts prosperity, but also provides a peaceful and cozy environment.

Vim and Vigor in Beirut, Lebanon by RG/A

Wednesday, February 19th, 2020

Article source: RG/A

– V&V is a neighborhood Gym and Health Bar located in the heart of Beirut. The space occupies the Ground floor and basement area of a longstanding building situated along one of Badaro District’s beautiful calm residential streets.

– The approach was to create a space for people to hangout, workout and be part of a healthy neighborhood lifestyle. Hence, the idea of bringing the outside in, spatially and visually; all the way from the terrace to the ground floor interior and down to the basement.

– The street’s extension to the space is first achieved through the main façade; it spreads through the whole space and is 22 meters long, it is a dominant feature in the design. Folding black powder coated steel framed glass doors open up fully, merging the outside with the inside, inviting people in; even when closed, visual communication is achieved through the see-through facade.

Article source: INOONI Jakub Zygmunt

The canoeing base in Augustów was established in 2019 as the implementation of the winning concept of the architectural competition settled in 2016. The competition task was to create a concept for a water sports center – a canoeist base – and the overall development of the neighboring recreational areas. The investment has been divided into several stages. The canoeing base is the first of them. Finally, the new development of Błonie on the Netta River is still to be built, including a multifunctional sports field, pumptrack, playground and places for citizens and tourists to get some rest.

Holmen Aquatics Center in Norway by ARKÍS arkitektar

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019

Article source: ARKÍS arkitektar

The Building

Holmen Aquatics Center is a continuation of Holmen beach, by protecting and reinforcing the site’s natural qualities. The footprint occupied by the building is replaced with a roof garden that further enhances the experience of the beach with spectacular views. The focus point of the project’s concept is the activation of the building’s roof as an integral part of Holmen beach recreation area. The grassy roof slopes towards the south and provides an uninterrupted view over Oslo fjord’s isles and reefs.

Main entrance, reception, changing rooms and swimming pool hall are located on the building’s main level, rising over the lawn that slopes up to the building. The lower level houses gym, multifunction hall, technical spaces and staff facilities.

121 East 22nd Street in New York by OMA

Thursday, October 3rd, 2019

Article source: OMA

121 East 22nd is OMA’s first ground up building and residential complex in Manhattan. The design was conceived from its site which straddles two separate and different neighborhoods: a quiet residential area surrounding Gramercy Park, an enclosed and private garden, and the bustling commercial space around Madison Square Park, a public park that hosts an array of activities.

The L-shaped site posed an opportunity to be informed by the two neighborhoods while activating three street fronts. The concept emerges from this dualistic condition, referencing Cubist artwork, in which objects are viewed from a multitude of viewpoints rather than a single one to represent the subject in a greater context. As such, the North Tower conveys the meeting of the two neighborhoods, realized through two interlocking planes that come together at 23rd and Lexington to form a distinct, three-dimensional corner.

Enrico Fermi School in Turin, Italy by BDR bureau

Monday, September 30th, 2019

Article source: BDR bureau

Turin-based architectural firm BDR bureau completes the transformation of the new Enrico Fermi School in Turin, the winning project of an international competition launched in 2016 by “Torino Fa Scuola”. The initiative, promoted by the Compagnia di San Paolo and the Fondazione Agnelli, in collaboration with the City of Turin and “Fondazione per la Scuola”, embodies a cultural, pedagogical and architectural reflection on the new learning spaces of the Italian school.

The existing school building, built in the 1960s in the Nizza Millefonti district between the former industrial area of the Lingotto and the Po river in the south-east area of Turin, has been extended and it is functionally rethought. The new educational needs – in which the school becomes an integral part of the community and merges with the urban fabric – represents the future of education and architecture for the Italian school.
