Temporary School Gymnasium in Massa Finalese, Italy by MIDE architetti + Paolo Didonè

Saturday, May 10th, 2014

Article source: MIDE architetti + Paolo Didonè

Following the 2012 earthquake that struck Emilia Romagna a competition was announce to rebuild a destroyed school gymnasium in Massa Finalese.

The site, which is located in the north-east side of a school park, is the border between the urban area and the country side, suggesting the new building to be the new “connecting tool” between these two realities.

The main focus is to create a structure able to soften the urban/country “boundary” and to characterize the whole of the school park as well:

Music Gymnasium Salzburg Proposal in Austria by LETH & GORI

Sunday, April 15th, 2012

Article source: LETH & GORI

LETH & GORI’s project for an extension to Music Gymnasium Salzburg received a 3. Price in the open international competition.

The project creates a new extension to the school without stealing space or light from the existing densely built site. This is done by digging out the northern part of the site and inserting the extension as a onestorey building with courtyards and skylights. The roof of the building becomes a new playful urban landscape for the students.

La Fonte Gym in Sesto Fiorentino, Italy by Fabio Capanni Workshop

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Article source: Fabio Capanni Workshop

Each and every project realized by Leonardo da Vinci, whether a building or a model airplane, was inspired by the human body. As such, this gym on the outskirts of Sesto Fiorentino, near Florence, can be considered a tribute to Leonardo’s work and genius. The copper plates covering the exterior of the gym makes the building look like muscle fiber. Thanks to the nail-less mounting, the plates are free to move and expand in accordance with one of copper’s key characteristic.

Oberglatt Gymnasium Extension in Zurich, Switzerland by kit

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

Article source: kit

After a fire destroyed the foyer of the gymnasium in Oberglatt, Switzerland, the city council asked for a new extension to the remaining parts of the building. The proposal by kit architects, which took the second prize in the competition, seamlessly connects to the existing structure, through program, space and form. Old and new dissolve into one, giving the building from the 70ties a distinct new identity. The cross section of the old sports hall with its ridged roof is most characteristic. Its ridge and eaves are extended and transformed into a welcoming gesture for the entrance within four descending steps, incidentally creating a series of skylights. The front facade is triangulated and recessed to create a covered zone leading into the building.

Pegan Petkovšek National Gymnastics Centre in Ljubljana, Slovenia by Enota

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Article source: Enota

The National Gymnastics Centre Pegan Petkovšek is part of the comprehensive renovation of Svoboda Sports Park in Ljubljana. It is the first of the three sports halls that are to be built on the western edge of a belt between an access street on one side and a large greened park layout with sports grounds on the other. The building of the gymnastics centre is placed on the northernmost part of this belt. The northern and western edge of the building reference the building line regulated by the spatial acts, which also stipulate the greatest built ratio and the height of the building. The strict urbanistic regulations necessitate a very compact design that allows for little deviation.
