Lord Foster has attended opening celebrations in Buenos Aires today for the new Buenos Aires Ciudad Casa de Gobierno, a sustainable new city hall for the Mayor and 1,500 staff – and the practice’s first civic project in Argentina. Spanning an entire city block in Parque Patricios, the building is a catalyst for the regeneration of the neighbourhood and combines an environmentally efficient design with an innovative, highly flexible internal arrangement of terraced working floors.
The project, as the result of an international competition, consists of both the total renovation and restoration of the existing historic Central Bank of Albania, designed by Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo in 1934-36, and the construction of a new building. It includes the new Numismatic Museum, a new conference hall for 150 persons, offices, meetings room, an internal gallery, a roof garden and an underground four-levels parking.

A national historic site, Montreal City Hall was one of the first monumental single-purpose city halls in Canada. Built between 1872 and 1878 after plans prepared by Hutchison & Perrault, the building was severely damaged by fire in 1922, leaving only its outer walls and destroying many of the city’s historic records. Commissioned to oversee reconstruction, the architect Louis Parent designed an entirely new building with a self-supporting steel structure erected inside the shell of the ruins. Inspired by the city hall of the French city of Tours, Parent re-modelled the mansard roof with a copper finish instead of the original slate tiles and completely restored the original limestone facades. With its dense and abundant use of ornamentation, Montreal City Hall is one of Canada’s finest examples of the Second Empire style.

The refurbishment of the wine cellar in Vrbovec was our first project. The builder is a wine grower and father of Barbora.
Final design is based on the sketch of the investor who was completely sure how the wine cellar should look like. We designed a new entrance hall with a small kitchen and toilet in the area where the old cabin used to be. We cleaned more than hundred years old underground part and kept it in its original state. The biggest change is new three meters wide skylight which brings sunlight down to the cellar. We recycled old vineyard posts (very similar was used on the borders with Austria during the Iron Curtain time) to build a new archive for bottles. The archive remains the vineyard.
The original dance pavilion Valencia was built in 1861 and designed by H.S. Stilling and is a building with a long history in the Copenhagen entertainments. It has witnessed the rapid growth of the neighborhood as the Copenhagen Rampartswere released in late 1800, and has at first-hand felt the city’s explosive growth as the detached dance pavilion in 1889 , was enclosed by the buildings around them. Before the thorough renovation the hall stood unnoticed, and the aim was to bring Valencia back in to the consciousness of the Copenhagen residents.

The Parish Hall is located on the square of São Miguel, the most important public space of Juncal village. In contrast with São Miguel Church that overlooks the square from a higher position, the main façade and entrance of the Parish Hall stands out on a lower part. Its back façade is grounded on a lower level and borders with a range of orchards.
