Vanke · City Growth Hall in Chengdu, China by MDO (MORE DESIGN OFFICE)

Monday, December 20th, 2021

Article source: MDO (MORE DESIGN OFFICE)

Vanke · City Growth Hall is located in the ‘Eastern Suburb Memory’ in Chengdu. The original building held the Hongguang Electronic Tube Factory, a state-run factory which was founded in 1958 which produced oscilloscopes and kinescopes for the military. The old factory was left to ruin whilst the other neighboring buildings have become part of a thriving cultural and design hub.

Our concept for renovation was to create a clear language between old and new, to leave traces and history of the existing building, whilst inserting a series of new contrasting elements.

Article source: Nikken Sekkei Ltd

The Shinjuku Sumitomo Building was built in 1974 in Tokyo’s Nishi Shinjuku district. The site’s expansive “Sankaku Hiroba” (triangular plaza) atrium roof, along with associated renovations, offer a sustainable model for addressing an emerging problem for Japan’s cities: how to carry out renovation projects on large-scale buildings using good maintenance practices. The project also represents a greater societal effort to enliven the urban business district and enhance its value as an accessible gathering place.

Shiwan Zhusheli Exhibition Hall in Zhejiang, China by ALL Studio

Saturday, October 30th, 2021

Article source: ALL Studio

In early 2019, ALL Studio was asked by HUATENG Co.,Ltd. to design the exhibition hall of Shiwan town (an ancient town in the south of Wuzhen town) in an agricultural tourism park. In the planning design, the whole park retains the original natural feeling to the greatest extent. When people enter the site from the southwest corner of the park, they can see the plum forest and open grassland surrounded by bamboo fences in the park. Therefore, the design consideration of the exhibition hall building is also defined as a simple and rough temperament in nature from the beginning of the design.

The exhibition hall is located at the west part of the park, adjacent to the main entrance of the park, close to the municipal road in the west, and the landscape and water system in the East of the park, facing to the organic restaurant across the lake. The form of the building is composed of two physical space and one courtyard, from south to north, followed by souvenir shop, courtyard and exhibition space. The subtle connection between the natural landscape of the whole park and the functional space contained in the buildings, at the same time, the vision and feeling of several courtyards has also been concerned from the beginning.

After a construction period of just 18 months and within the budget of 40 million euro the Isarphilharmonie concert hall in timber module construction, with about 1,900 seats, has now been completed. In combination with the former transformer building (Hall E), which has been refurbished to listed building standard, it will become the focal point of Gasteig HP8, the venue for Europe’s largest cultural center during its general overhaul. The architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) have succeeded within a very tight time frame and budget in creating an attractive venue with top-class acoustics of international standard that establishes the former Stadtwerke site in Sendling sustainably as a new, vibrant cultural quarter in Munich.

Acne Store in Stockholm, Sweden by ARQUITECTURA-G

Monday, June 7th, 2021

Architects: ARQUITECTURA-G

This former bank suffered a robbery in which hostages were taken, leading to the term Stockholm syndrome. After the bank closed, several interventions added a series of layers over the years, masking the original neoclassic architecture.

The project cleans up the space, leaving only the essential features. Although the floors were made of real marble, many elements were faux marble, and the project plays with this duality. All the skin surfaces are monochrome within the shades of the original Ekeberg marble.
