Article source: UNStudio

The design for the new TBC Forum – located in Tbilisi, Georgia – proposes a transition from the traditional closed and introverted working model previously favoured in the banking industry, toward a flexible, open and responsive system.

The new TBC Forum proposes a cultural hub that will act as a catalyst for the development of a new area of the city, promoting socio-economic development through the creation of a financial knowledge centre and innovation platform.

Harvard HouseZero in Cambridge, Massachusetts by Snøhetta

Friday, January 18th, 2019

Article source: Snøhetta

The Harvard Center for Green Buildings and Cities (CGBC) at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) announced today the completion of HouseZero, the retrofitting of its headquarters in a pre-1940s building in Cambridge into an ambitious living-laboratory and an energy-positive prototype for ultra-efficiency that will help us to understand buildings in new ways. The design of HouseZero has been driven by radically ambitious performance targets from the outset, including nearly zero energy for heating and cooling, zero electric lighting during the day, operating with 100 percent natural ventilation, and producing zero carbon emissions. The building is intended to produce more energy over its lifetime than was used to renovate it and throughout its subsequent operation. Snøhetta was the project’s lead architect and Skanska Teknikk Norway was the lead energy engineer.

World Trade Centre in Amsterdam, Netherlands by PLP Architecture

Thursday, January 10th, 2019

Article source: PLP Architecture

The construction of Tower Ten, the new expansion of the World Trade Centre Amsterdam, officially began last week at a Ground Breaking Ceremony launched by deputy director Sandra Thesing of the City of Amsterdam and Ronald van der Waals of CBRE Global Investors, the Fund Manager of the Fund that owns the building in the Zuidas central business district.

Since gaining planning approval from the city last year, the site has been decanted and prepared ready for part demolition and reconstruction. Much of the structure and slabs of the existing facility will be re-used, though Tower Ten will present a radically different appearance from its predecessor, adding 32,000 sqm of new office space and amenities in the process.

The original World Trade Center was built in the 1980s as a rational sequence of gridded blocks of concrete frame and glazed curtain walling. A thorough refurbishment of the four original towers, as well as a substantial extension to the campus, were completed over a decade ago by the design team led by Ron Bakker and Lee Polisano of PLP Architecture. PLP has now returned to the campus to deliver the third major iteration in the history of the Center’s development.

Engie Headquarters in Milan, Italy by Park Associati

Thursday, January 10th, 2019

Article source: Park Associati

The project proposes a complete renovation of a poor architectural quality building from the beginning of the ‘80s, outdated in terms of energy and distribution. The refurbishment converts the building into a contemporary property suited to the developing surrounding area of Bicocca district.

Rather than implementing a restyling process, the building’s architecture was re-thought from scratch and the proportions and shapes of the massive volumes of the original building have been altered to achieve a much lighter and articulated configuration. The proportioning of the building’s volumes also allowed to create new large terraces on the rooftop further connecting ENGIE HQ with its surroundings: staring at the “artificial” skyline of downtown Milan, and at the Alps.

Article source: PLH Arkitekter A/S

The office headquater is designed as a flexible 4-storey atrium building with 15m deep wings around a unifying atrium with a large central skylight. The benefits of an atrium building include a high degree of flexibility in the interior design, proximity and contact between employees, as well as optimized circulation roads and areas.

The arched shapes of the balconies around the atrium provide a varied spatial experience, and the natural light from the skylight and natural materials used, create a modern building with a Nordic expression.

Nantes Haluchere in France by THIBAUD BABLED ARCHITECTES URBANISTES

Monday, December 24th, 2018

Article source: THIBAUD BABLED ARCHITECTES URBANISTES

The Paris office of Thibaud Babled Architectes Urbanistes just delivered a multipurpose complex comprised of 4 buildings, housing the headquarters of the Nantes Métropole “proximity” center, an office of Pôle Emploi (national employment agency) and housing. The project’s varied program of high quality architectural and environmental design creates a link between the inner city of Nantes and its periphery. At this pivotal juncture of city and periphery, Thibaud Babled chose to build a strong statement at the intersection of the high traffic volume of the boulevard and a hub of tram lines. The project grows out of the concept of a new metropolitan multi-modal center at the intersection of main road and rail axes.

The complex of buildings includes some forty units of housing as well as offices to be occupied by Nantes Métropole and Pôle Emploi.

Stibbe Headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands by JO COENEN architect & urbanist

Thursday, December 20th, 2018

Article source: JO COENEN architect & urbanist

Stibbe headquarter’s urban context is characterized by the variety of spheres and different scale levels: to the east, the location is a continuation of Amsterdam’s South Axis, whereas the north side is mainly characterized by the A10 highway. On the west side the Beethoven Street is the main route to the city centre while the east side is literally situated in the Beatrix Park.

Characteristic of the urban design by Danish Henning Larsens are the organic footprints. This visual language allows for the park to find continuation around the buildings and to be visible and palpable from the Beethoven Street. The flowing lines of the romantic, classic English garden like Beatrixpark, find continuation in the architectural appearance.
