Addis Abeba Chamber of Commerce Headquarters in Ethiopia by BC Architects

The creation of urban potential – through architecture, and the quest for a glocal architecture

Urbanism, in common perception, comes before architecture: urbanism creates potential by generating conditions to orchestrate the city’s latter architectural objects. Urbanism is a very generous way of thinking, since a lot is left open, whereas architecture is a more selfish discipline, which uses up the potential generated by others. In some rapidly changing cities of the global south though, urbanism doesn’t necessarily happen before architecture: it coincides in time.

Article source: GIUSEPPE TORTATO

Inspired by the super fast boat hulls, the building’s volume expresses dynamism and innovation of a group at the forefront of research, in strict compliance with the energy class A.

The project for the headquarters of AB Medica, an italian farmaceutical company, is developed and designed by architect Giuseppe Tortato. An appealing combination that reveals a  landmark building with functional and symbolic aspects requested by the client and the will of demarcation and qualification of a suburban context flanked by the highway Milano-Varese.

New Headquarters of the Province in Bergamo, Italy by Andrea Maffei Architects

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

Article source: Andrea Maffei Architects

In recent years, the attractive opportunities offered to the city by the famous Bergamo Scienza initiative brought two speakers – W.J. Mitchell and L.E. Robertson – who expressed radically different views on the theme of the skyscrapers. Mitchell considers them obsolete, replaced by computerized progress, Robertson even consider them antidotes to land consumption, pollution and many other problems of the city.

B+L HQ in Warsaw, Poland by 137kilo Architekci

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013

Article source: 137kilo Architekci

The project is the Poland headquarters of a large pharmaceutical corporation. The client wanted the office space to highlight the company’s scientific heritage while providing a high quality working environment for its employees. Research labs and contact lenses – the client’s main product – served as our inspiration. White exposed ceilings combined with glass surfaces combine to create a light and transparent space. This seemingly sterile aesthetic is balanced by green walls along the space’s main visual axes and functional solutions which encourage teamwork and relaxation.
