Article source: MIZIEN

Poblenou, a former industrial district of Barcelona, has been transformed in the 22 @ technology district during the last decade: a new model of compact city, where innovative companies co-exist with research, training and tech transfer centers, as well as housing, facilities, green areas and industrial heritage. Gaes, a hearing aid company in the 22 @, represents the case of an old Catalan industry in Poblenou that has become during the same period a multinational corporation with an industrial integrated model of research, clean production and marketing.

A Landmark building near Tarjish Square.
Isolation of floor units anticipate future seismic activity.  Staggered juxtaposition maximizes views, and creates various ‘green shelves’ for rain capture, irrigation, and shading during summer months.  These green shelves accommodate lush, climbing vines and vegetation for sound absorption and passive temperature control.  Cast glass discs are embedded at the ground floor and parking slabs for natural light and weight reduction.

Completed in 2005, the office façade of the new Hyundai Development Company headquarters was designed to integrate the headquarters with the public plaza, the below-grade spaces and any future development on the site. A 62 meter ring dominates the main facade together with a complementary vector that explores the depth of the facade as a space that will be locally accessible through volume and plane projections.

Rossignol Global Headquarters in Saint Jean de Moirans, France by Herault Arnod Architectes

Friday, April 27th, 2012

Article source: Herault Arnod Architectes

The image of Rossignol, a historic leader in the world of skiing, is intimately linked to the mountains and to snow. The project for its global headquarters has nothing to do with the stereotypical office building, but is a tribute to nature and to the peaks, but also to technology, which is inseparable from top-level sport. The plot stands in the middle of a plain surrounded by mountains. It is a stretch of former farmland, marshy and perfectly flat, bounded on the northern side by the Lyon-Grenoble motorway. The architecture has been designed specifically for Rossignol, a fusion of the company’s functional and fantasy aspects, in a surprising and minimalist form: it is inspired by board sports, by fluidity of motion, and also by relief, snow and glaciers sculpted by the elements. The roof, which envelops the whole project, is topography in osmosis with nature and the landscape. Its organic, timber-clad shape echoes the profile of the mountains that surround the site.

New Headquarter Of Bank Of Georgia Illuminated Translucent Concrete For Interior Design

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Article source: Architectural Group & Partners

Renovation of a building listed as national monument under preservation order.

The idea of light and nature showing through a building was the fundamental concept of redesigning the headquarter of Bank of Georgia, Tbilisi. Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright and Glenn Murcutt already had this idea in their minds as well as OMA, Office for Metropolitan Architecture Beijing, the architectural department of Rem Kolhaas architects in Rotterdam, for the high-class project “The Interlace” in Singapore. This idea was leading for renovation of the building in Georgia – since 2007 listed as national monument under preservation order – to be finished in spring 2011. A great and extraordinary office building was created: Incorporating nature in the whole interior design in forms of light. The architects of AG&P have realized a special highlight by using illuminated translucent concrete.

Commissariat of Police France by X-TU architects

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

Article source: X-TU architects

Given the reduced program size and the location of the land parcel, the idea was to insert most of the program elements in a high vertical volume. Which set on a street angle will stand as an emblematic tower. The “special” elements of the program will have volumes of their own. They strain the composition from one end of the parcel to the other with glass walls. These spaces contain the ground floor and the first level and create a pedestal from where the rest of the masses stand on.

IDOM Headquarters in Bilbao, Spain by ACXT Arquitectos

Friday, April 20th, 2012

Article source: ACXT Arquitectos

The new IDOM Group offices are located in the old bonded warehouse in the Deusto canal, in Bilbao. It has 14,400m2 destined for offices, research and development areas such as the white-room and the prototypes workshop, and social spaces.

Outwardly, and from the first idea, the design has developed from the occupation manner of the roof, which was filled with goods that were stored in the building. An imaginary green carpet has been designed as if simply placed over the roof, hiding all air conditioning units which in most office buildings are visible, with the resulting sound and visual impact. Certain topography arises as a result of the adaptation of the “carpet” on the machines. Folds and surfaces that resemble a hill on which to stroll in the moments of relaxation and conversation with peers for this is the floor on which the rest-area of the building is planned. The flat part of the “carpet” is natural grass. For maintenance and weight reasons, the part that covers machinery, the folded one, is artificial turf.

380 Bretano way in Greenbrae, California by PIQUE llc

380 BRETANO WAY GREENBRAE, CA

Family back yard development and global headquarters for Riedel Research Group.

SITE SPECIFICITY

These two lots on Bretano way are steeply sloped and have a north-western orientation. The contours form a concaved amphitheater-like shape focusing on the existing pool and the house’s back patio. The area is dense with foliage but there are pockets of clear space that create sheltered little moments as you walk upon them. Both large public areas and these isolated spaces exist and the differences in scale offer a variety of experiences. There is an overall sense of protection and inward focus while on the site. The downward momentum of the land combined with the expansive canopies of the oak trees makes the space feel immediate, protected and calm. This is a wonderful contrast to the other very dynamic systems that are presented in this booklet and this contrast may be fruitful as we begin to establish common design intent.
