For a studio, space is the source of motivation and inspiration. However, in today’s society, the office environment is generally dull and unpleasant, and lacks flexibility in spatial considerations. Under the pandemic, a new hybrid working model is derived. In some cases, employees will work at home through video conference, resulting in idle space costs; while some employees cannot concentrate and work at home due to the noisy environment, moreover, covid-19 also reduces the need for business trips and meetings, and so some employees even stay in the studio for longer time, making the studio to be an extension of ‘home’. Different propositions were therefore derived when designing the studio for Sim–Plex : How to make effective use of the part of the studio when it is idle? How to improve the inspiration environment and atmosphere for the long duration time of staying by employees due to the pandemic? How to showcase the variety of design details and functionality when clients come to visit?
NORSE apartment located in Kiev, Ukraine in the residential complex «Tetris Hall».
The space of 166 sq.m. was created by combining two apartments with an excellent view of the city center.
The main task was to create a Scandinavian style interior for a young couple with a dog, using natural materials, comfortable lighting, and the major icons of Scandinavian design.
CORE’s design for seafood restaurant The Point merges fire, water, and commercial fishing culture into one concept bringing together a space that feels open, strong, and substantial. A full service, single concept restaurant, The Point offers high-quality and fresh seafood cooked over a rustic wood-fire hearth. Located at Buzzard Point in the Southwest waterfront neighborhood of Washington DC, at the junction of the Potomac and Anacostia rivers, the restaurant is situated in the most prominent storefront space of an adaptive reuse development project. Inspired by the unique site and junction of the two rivers, the design concept embraces the idea of “confluence”. This is translated into the design by focusing on the transformation of elements as they come together and interact. Water and fire, represented by the view-shed and wood-fire cooking are expressed through dynamic architecture gestures and finishes that frame and highlight each element. The finish palette merges warm tones with cool hues to cerate a rich and layered atmosphere. A major source of inspiration comes from the client’s background and connection with commercial fishing, and influences the sturdy and honest details that prevail throughout the space.
Our client sought to create an interior that catered to the local market and allowed the easy transit of delivery services like Uber Eats.
Our concept for this japanese food restaurant wanted to connect with traditional Japanese design elements without seeming thematic. Using clear cherry colored wood and a bi-chromatic color palette connects us with traditional tatami interiors and rice paper sliding doors. The mirrors evoke antique trains from the past and create visual amplitude with the customers.
We chose cherry colored wood by PROTEAK mixed with natural pine wood to bring warmth into the interior, it also helped us to create a modular division that generated our seating space and roof design.
COLLIDER is a coworking space, event-hall and bar located on the territory of the former silkworm factory of the 19th century in the center of Moscow. The coworking space and bar were designed by the COLLIDER team. Daring loft-style solutions fully paid off in the coworking area, and the guys managed to create a cool space for work. But for the bar, the same stylistic choices didn’t work. The bar turned out to be gloomy and uncomfortable. We were faced with the task of redesigning the bar while preserving the overall concept and stylistic connection with the rest of the spaces. The new bar should be cozy, comfortable and combine the functions of a bar and a coworking space.
This project is a residential renovation project located in Tangerang Indonesia which has a tropical climate and is quite hot and humid. The existing building cannot meet the client’s needs both in terms of space programs and in terms of design desires. Seeing this, we created a design by combining the needs of the occupants and the building itself, where the front of the building directly faces west so that the rooms in the front area have a hot air temperature until the evening. Therefore we added a layer on the facade of the building which aims to filter the light that enters the house. Because the name of the occupant is DJ, we also make the analogy of making the shape of the building as if it were two separate parts between the right and left sides like a turntable.
Israeli architecture studio Baranowitz & Goldberg today officially unveils its architecture and interior design work for the new Kaza Israel furniture showroom in Tel Aviv. Located in an industrial area just outside the center of the city, Baranowitz & Goldberg imagined a world with geometric shapes laced with custom-designed, strong color palettes that would both encapsulate spaces for furniture display whilst standing out as a work of art itself.
Inspired by Luis Barragán’s bold use of color, and Andrea Palldio’s strong perspectives at Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, the Kaza Israel showroom is a living manifestation of distinct scenes, illustrating settings with the physicality of the changing décor. The Kaza Israel showroom is a space where life, theatre, and commerce engage in an architectural dance of space and color.
Residence 0110 is the refurbishment of my own apartment. It is located in the Poble Nou neighborhood, Barcelona, where the ‘Cerdá Eixample’ begins to be disfigured, and where recently the 22@ district is introducing contemporary architecture in clear contrast to the area’s industrial past.
The apartment is located on a high floor of a chamfered block, facing south-east, which benefits from the proximity of the train tracks to extend its views up to the Montjuic mountain. The existing state presented a house developed according to two bays parallel to the façade, both very narrow, barely 3m, with a sequence of very small rooms in each bay, without any interest, and impossible to adapt to contemporary living habits.
The customers already owned the warehouse adjacent to the intervention area where the companies are based, but with its exponential growth the need to increase the physical space of the company became perennial.
The main challenges of this intervention were the interconnection of the two warehouses, in order to be able to seam the original space and the new space in the most fluid and natural way possible, and the creation of dynamics between the two companies, which although distinct, work synergistically.
We were very lucky with our customers. We created this project together with an unusual young and friendly family. The main inspiration and source of energy for the renovation was a very interesting and effective woman who works in a theatre. From the first meeting, it became clear how much she cares about the comfort and happiness of her beloved family, and we were happy to help them make their dreams come true.
