The rebirth of the Prague’s riverfront in Prague, Czech Republic by petrjanda/brainwork

Wednesday, July 31st, 2019

Article source: petrjanda/brainwork

The first part of the long-awaited revitalization of the Prague riverfront area called Náplavka is coming to completion, making it one of the most attractive public embankments in Europe.

In autumn 2019, nineteen vaults on the Rašín and Hořejší Embankments will be put into use. Six will feature the biggest elliptical pivoting windows in the world, connecting the inner spaces with the riverfront area in a unique way, through the diagonal rotation of the five-meter wide glazed “lenses”. The other spaces will have distinct steel sculptural entrances.

Nanshan Technology Finance City in Shenzhen, China by Foster + Partners

Monday, July 1st, 2019

Article source: Foster + Partners

The completion ceremony of the Nanshan Technology Finance City in Shenzhen was held recently. The masterplan and the entire complex of buildings was designed by Foster + Partners, establishing a new destination for the city and a new benchmark for sustainable architecture in China. The design creates an integrated mixed-use community – unified by a series of ‘ribbons’ that define the routes, landscape and buildings – bringing together offices, a hotel and a dynamic public realm, animated by shops, restaurants and a range of new civic spaces.

Braemar College Middle School in Woodend, Australia by Hayball

Thursday, June 20th, 2019

Article source: Hayball

Hayball has been working closely with Braemar College on a new campus Masterplan. Stage one involved the development of a new campus to provide a stand-alone Middle School for students in years 5-8.

The new campus celebrates education and social interaction, responds to the rural context while respecting distant views to surrounding natural landmarks. It addresses the challenges of the existing steeply sloped Macedon Campus: managing fire risk for its community, providing contemporary learning environments, and allowing equity of access to all spaces.

Karle Town Centre in Bangalore, India by UNStudio

Wednesday, June 19th, 2019

Article source: UNStudio

According to economists, we are currently living in the ‘Indian Century’, and Bangalore – with its moniker as the Silicon Valley of India, due to the large number of information technology companies based in the city – finds itself at the epicenter of this rapid growth.

Within this thriving Tech Hub, UNStudio has designed the new Karle Town Centre (KTC), while UNSense – the arch tech company founded by UNStudio – is collaborating with Karle Infra to curate the use of sensorial technologies throughout the masterplan. KTC is a development that aims to define Bangalore locally and inspire the whole of India to ‘lead by example’ when designing future urban destinations.

Karle Town Centre, which is currently under construction, enjoys a direct connection to the city’s ring road arterial and expanding metro lines. It is positioned prominently next to the established Manyata Tech Park with scenic views over Nagavara Lake and is designed to act as a natural magnet for people and activities in the urban panorama.

Nowadays, people in large urban centers tend to lose contact with nature, while rural areas are prone to disappear due to migration towards big cities. TID Tower in Tirana, Balkans by 51N4E

Tuesday, May 21st, 2019

Article source: 51N4E

The tower is part of the ambitious new master plan for the city, which converges around ten towers. The main program of the tower consists of office and housing program. Shopping and restaurant facilities are located in the base and at the top of the building.

Our first investigation was to resolve the dilemma of elegance – a clear ambition stated in the master plan – and square meters. We propose a volume based on a super ellipse: starting as an ellipse and ending as a rectangle. The subtle transition between these two basic shapes makes a tower which fully captures the Mediterranean light of Tirana, and creates ever changing shadows.

Reconstruction of the Jeanne Labourbe Park in Odesa, Ukraine by Melnikov Architects

Wednesday, May 15th, 2019

Article source: Melnikov Architects

Located in Odessa, Ukraine the Jeanne Labourbe Park is a transit space between historic residential area at the level of a plateau and Primorskaya Street lying along the foot of the hill, which is a main road of a predominantly industrial dock-side district. For decades the Park situated on a hillside remains an abandoned and unsafe place.

The main purpose of the project is to develop the recreational and entertaining role of the Park, while preserving the elements of the unique historical environment, wildlife and the landscape.

To engage the public deep into the Park we propose a set of magnets – various points of attraction for every target audience: e.g. playgrounds, sports grounds, an open-air theater, places for cultural actions, exhibitions spaces, observation decks, recreation areas as well as public amenities and lavatories.
