KOIL (Kashiwa-no-ha Open Innovation Lab) is an innovation center intended to support start-ups of entrepreneurs, promote enterprise developments and stimulate economic activities in Japan. It is a place like a platform where companies and individuals work together beyond a traditional framework and fuse ideas, skills and know-how to produce innovative products and services, which is facilitated and realized by the system with investors’ supports.

Three Courtyard Community centre in Jiangsu Province, China by AZL ARCHITECTS

On the eastern edge of Yangzhou’s new development area and east of the 2500-year-old Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, Three Courtyard Community Centre stands out from the surrounding newly completed call centres, glass office blocks, and farmers’ villages. The Community centre’s programme calls for recreation, dining, and meeting spaces for the surrounding residents and employees.

  • Meeting rooms inspired by Airbnb listings around the world channeled into individual pods dotted around the otherwise open plan office. Each pod has windows on two walls to allow for uninterrupted views of the office.
  • A dynamic and flexible work environment – including a meeting room, modeled after an Amsterdam apartment, which can be split into two separate spaces.

Sidwell Friends School, a K-12 Quaker school in Washington, D.C., transformed a 1950s gymnasium into a contemplative space for worship, with additional facilities for art and music instruction. The gymnasium had been used as a makeshift worship space for more than a decade; its location on campus was ideal, its acoustics and architecture were not.

In Fall 2008, the First Unitarian Society of Madison completed a major new addition to its Frank Lloyd Wright-designed National Historic Landmark Meeting House. Completed in 1951, the original Meeting House has been hailed as one of the world’s most innovative examples of church architecture.In recent years, the First Unitarian Society of Madison has become one of the largest Unitarian congregations in the United States. This growth, along with ongoing architectural tours by visitors from around the world, has placed increasing demands on the original historic structure.
