In planning the Olaya Metro Station, Gerber Architekten are currently working on the most important infrastructure project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Following the competition win in 2012, excavation work has now begun. The groundbreaking ceremony was celebrated on the 3rd of April 2014 in the presence of the Governor of Riyadh at that time, Prince Khalid bin Bandar. Now, the BACS Consortium comprised of Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company, Almabani, Consolidated Contractors Company and Siemens opened up the way for the next planning phase to commence and commissioned Professor Gerber and his team Gerber Architekten under the direction of Thomas Lücking in cooperation with BuroHappold Engineering with further planning for this major project. The planning work for the station should be completed in the next 18 months.
The Montreal Metro Project is an ongoing photo archive of Montreal’s internationally renowned metro system. The series captures the often overlooked architecture, design, and motion of each the many stations of the system.
Located in an environment that lacked strong marks, the Metro Station 20 should be a signal, a structural element of the landscape, it must be at its scale. We have designed a structure that is both generous and sensual, with a glass volume curves embracing the ground and reaching the underground platform level by penetrating light and vegetation. The structure consists of 27 metal arches on a plot of 4,00 m, of variable height and width, starting from the rail level. The height varies between 19 and 24 m and the width between 17,80 m et 30 m. They are connected by a secondary structure of metal tubes that support the triangular glass panels. This structure also supports the road that enters into the glass volume and will form a bridge of 105 m length suspended from the metal structure. In its central part, this bridge will be slightly curved to give greater height above the access platform.
Huellas Artes interprets the human footprint as an artistic trail in Santiago city. It is a cultural engine fueled by the passing flow of citizens and visitors from around the Bellas Artes metro station, a highly cultural area of downtown Santiago. It is an architectural intervention that proposes a new use scene in a fully unclosed outdoor space.

And what more, we are excited to know that this opinion of citizens was shared by the Contest judges! It is common people that use subway stations, and thus Moscow Mayor Sobyanin’s idea to involve such common people into the decision making process seems really trendy and reasonable.
The Uruguai Station is located on Tijuca neighborhood, in the North of Rio de Janeiro, and it is part of the extended Line 1 of the metro. The station occupies an old parking area for trains, known as “Rabicho da Tijuca”. The previous space, with reduced height and limited structural spans, was not suitable for a metro station.
Bijlmermeer is one of the neighbourhoods that form Amsterdam South-East a municipal borough of the city of Amsterdam. The neighbourhood, which today houses almost 100,000 people of over 150 nationalities, was designed as a single project of nearly identical high-rise buildings laid out in a hexagonal grid. Construction started in 1963 with the first apartments finished in 1968. In the 1970’s the area was connected to the center of Amsterdam by a new metro line raised 11m above the ground on a brutalist concrete structure.
The Washington, D.C. Metro rail transit system has been selected to receive the 2014 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Twenty-Five Year Award. Designed by Harry Weese, FAIA, in the 1960’s, the Washington, D.C. Metro is being recognized as an architectural design of enduring significance. The Twenty-five Year Award is conferred on a structure that has stood the test of time by embodying architectural excellence for 25 to 35 years. Projects must demonstrate excellence in function, in the distinguished execution of its original program, and in the creative aspects of its statement by today’s standards. The award will be presented this June at the AIA National Convention in Chicago, the home of its architect, Harry Weese, who died in 1998.
Fernandes Arquitetos was responsible for the architecture, landscaping and visual communication projects of Imigrantes Station, which belongs to Line 2 (Green) of São Paulo Metrô. It is a surface station, installed close to a viaduct and that runs parallel to the tracing of an avenue. It is structured over a 136-m central platform and has accesses by parallel tracks, which have operational and technical rooms beside them, in addition to staircases that lead to the platform level.
Fernandes Arquitetos is in charge of the project for eight stations of the future Parangaba – Mucuripe Line of Fortaleza Metrô, usually known as Metrofor. The branch will have its tracing on surface and will be integrated to South Line – already in operation – at Parangaba Station.
