Urban Repurposing of a Former Dairy in Paris, France by NOMAA_MARC YOUNAN ARCHITECTES

Sunday, March 5th, 2017

Article source: NOMAA_MARC YOUNAN ARCHITECTES

The project involves the conversion of an industrial building dating from the 19th century into 85 units of social housing, and a nursery with space for 40 cribs, as well as a commercial space and a parking garage. The existing building, which has served a series of varied activities – first as a dairy, then for food processing industries, followed by maintenance workshops and a printing business – was built on a trapezius plan around a courtyard covered with an industrial glass roof sheltering delivery docks.

Amsterdam Children’s Playschool in Netherlands by Tiago do Vale Architects

Thursday, January 5th, 2017

Article source: Tiago do Vale Architects

Amsterdam is, today, a major european city consolidated on an important architectural tradition. A strong sense of identity and belonging is very characteristic of both the city and the country -defined by its permanent fight between the sea and the territory conquered to it- and that reflects on a generalized concern over the quality of public spaces and their collective enjoyment.

Hence, the Amsterdam Children’s Playschool starting point was the idea of having a children daycare center as a device to qualify an abandoned public space.

Designed over an abandoned dock, this proposal combines classrooms with exterior patios, with different uses and diverse degrees of privacy (some more public functioning as plazas, others semi-private with flexible uses, others totally private for the exclusive use of the daycare center).

Hakusui Nursery School in Chiba, Japan by Yamazaki Kentaro Design Workshop

Sunday, November 13th, 2016

Article source: Yamazaki Kentaro Design Workshop

This nursery school in Sakura, Chiba was planned to accommodate 60 pupils.

Seiyu-Kai, a local social welfare firm specializing in elderly care facilities approached us for this project. The overarching concept for this plan started with an idea: “a nursery school is a large house.”

Surrounded by mountains and forest, the southern area of the site rests on a gentle slope. Putting this topography to use, we designed the school room to resemble a large set of stairs.
