The project involves the conversion of an industrial building dating from the 19th century into 85 units of social housing, and a nursery with space for 40 cribs, as well as a commercial space and a parking garage. The existing building, which has served a series of varied activities – first as a dairy, then for food processing industries, followed by maintenance workshops and a printing business – was built on a trapezius plan around a courtyard covered with an industrial glass roof sheltering delivery docks.
This project is a small nursery in Yamanashi prefecture, Japan.
The site offers a spectacular view of Mt. Fuji. With some houses and farms spread out in its neighborhood, it creates a peaceful, but at the same time, a bit deserted atmosphere.

A strong sense of identity and belonging is very characteristic of both the city and the country -defined by its permanent fight between the sea and the territory conquered to it- and that reflects on a generalized concern over the quality of public spaces and their collective enjoyment.
Hence, the Amsterdam Children’s Playschool starting point was the idea of having a children daycare center as a device to qualify an abandoned public space.

Later it has continued growing and expanding its scope to nursery schools and the elderly. Now, Spanish architect Elsa Urquijo presents their new headquarter to us. This is one of the most important in the country in its field because it unifies a wide range of services (shelter, nursery, nursing home, etc.) in a unique architectural complex.
