The Land Rover Regional Offices in Shanghai was driven by 3 primary ideas: 1) creating a porous urban environment; 2) creating a showroom space for a car company that would, in turn, create a contrast between the scale of the buildings; and, 3) introducing a dynamic façade to achieve a building without automated systems. In realizing these goals, it became apparent that the two towers had to be in the opposite corners of the site and that the shorter pavilions had to fill in the area in-between. The façade utilized parametric tools to transform inspiration from bamboo forests into a complex frit pattern. In the end, the buildings interact dynamically with the changing atmosphere of Shanghai and are in a constant state of metamorphosis.
The Design Project of headquarters building of BIALMED pharmaceutical wholesaler breaks a stereotype of a typical warehouse design time fulfilling a task of blending an enormous structure into a green landscape of Masuria district in Poland at the same. The design becomes almost a natural part of the surroundings.
The attempt to merge industrial architecture with nature may seem strange at first, but both – the Client and the Designers made this a priority in the design process. Greenery , nature and sustainability were the most important theme of the project – not only when it comes to building architecture, but technical installations as well. The building itself is heated by heat pumps, while electricity is gained of photo-voltaic cells.

In the Summer of 2008 UAU collective (before named SAQ) was approached by Design Hotels to aid in the creation of a proposal for an 80,000 sq. m. site comprised of 4 existing buildings and the addition of a 5th unifying building that could run throughout the complex composed of retail, hotel, cinema and office space. The project could not be a cut and paste of existing programmatic standards but instead had to integrate new concepts for retail, hotel and office space. This called for a heavily integrated team of experts for hotel (Design hotels), retail (Axel Weber and Partners), and architecture (UAU collectiv). UAU collectiv (SAQ) was responsible for the overall masterplan, the architecture as the realization of the interior of the common spaces. The realization on site is carried out by the Munich architectural firm Hild und K, which is specialised in construction work on existing buildings. Hild und K have combined the innovative design by UAU collective (SAQ) with the given conditions of the listed existing buildings and thereby made it feasible.

We love to explore new and unusual paths. Working together as equals and maintaining an intensive exchange of knowledge with others is we are sure of that beneficial to all. We live this philosophy at Franz&Sue, in the ‘fight club’ and in our voluntary work in various architectural institutions. Several of our projects are developed in cross-practice working groups even today. Thus, we realised a project that’s very close to our hearts together with friends and colleagues: Stadtelefant (city elephant) near Helmut Zilk Park.
