OMA’s only built project in Japan up until 2012 can be found in Fukuoka. The Nexus World Housing complex was completed more than twenty-five years ago. Local developer Fukuoka Jisho commissioned Arata Isozaki to develop a masterplan that introduces a “new urban lifestyle,” for which OMA was invited as one of six architects to design a freestanding housing block.
Fukuoka is the seventh biggest city in Japan, known for its distinct cultural identity. Its central location among major cities of East Asia positions the city as a gateway into Japan, contributing to its standing as the economic center of Kyushu Island. The city has been thriving over the last decade, ranking highly in livability, ratio of younger population, and percentage of start-ups.
107 Forbes is a new single-tenant Core & Shell office building that sits veritably in pole position at the literal gateway to both the City’s historic core and the West Annapolis neighborhood it resides within. The new building replaces one of a series of small-scale commercial buildings which sit immediately along Rowe Boulevard. Following revisions to the zoning code, the strip of land they occupy has been rendered unbuildable due to a uniform setback applied along Rowe Boulevard which engulfs the entire depth of these sites. In order to build a new structure here the building had to fit essentially within the existing footprint and maintain similar bulk, height, and floor area.
The project comprises the extension of the production and office space on the south front of the existing Schneider Electric facilities in Puente la Reina, Navarre.
For this purpose, a ground and first floor building was designed, in continuity with the alignment of the existing office building.

This project involves the heavy restructuring of a corner building located at the junction of rue Thiers and rue Carnot, in the heart of the historic center of the city of Vannes.
The existing building, R+2 plus attic, was a bank that we transformed into offices for Groupe Giboire. The aim is to set up a new commercial and real estate development agency. The location of the project is remarkable, close to the port, it is backed by the city walls dating from the 4th century.
The 11th of March marks the press conference for Aedas-designed IM Shanghai — a cultural complex premised on the grand unveiling of a mountainous cityscape.
The development, located at the intersection of Kaixuan Road and Huaihai West Road of Changning District and conveniently accessible via MTR Line 10 at Hongqiao Road Station, is adjacent to the Shanghai City Sculpture Art Centre, and Redtown Art District. The site is not among any of the CBDs in Shanghai. Thus, a primary and key purpose of the development is to drive business value by attracting tenants and consumers as it integrates with the surrounding context.
We worked together with Max’s marketing team and D.S. Blay Architects to create the language and design for their 7-floor office complex. Our goal was to create a different and innovative design for each of the floors based on the company’s branding book language. We chose a material for each floor symbolizing the type of work of each department. For example, for the HR department we utilized fabric, which symbolizes human connection. We decorated meeting rooms, phone booths, a large cafeteria, and incorporated motion graphics on the first floor to give a first impression of innovation and technology. In summary, seven floors of cutting edge, fun and inspiring environmental graphic design.
Setting apart the new J&T headquarters from the neighbouring buildings is its appearance – inside and out.
The world of finance is made up of various elements that need to function and fit together flawlessly. The unbroken pattern of the façade mirrors this world.
The design of the façade is a juxtaposition of technological rationality and irregularity – an approach inspired by the works of important abstract painters and sculptors. The clear right angles are also repeated in the general layout of the interior. The original graphic design of the directional signs inside the building underscore this orthogonality. The design of the font and symbols as well as the linear geometry of the lighting are based on the façade’s distinct, graphic pattern.
SpaceInvader has completed a boutique, 2,000 sq ft workspace for Manchester-based Tosca Debt Capital on the 5th floor of the Helical-owned Trinity Building on the city’s John Dalton Street. Not only was this a fast turnaround scheme, commissioned in July 2020, but it was designed and delivered by the SpaceInvader and wider installation team during lockdown and semi-lockdown, proving what could still be achieved under such exacting pandemic conditions.
Tosca Debt Capital is a financial services company that brings additional, complementary debt funding options to regional markets, giving SMEs – particularly those across the Northern Powerhouse – access to institutional capital to help drive entrepreneurial ambitions. The strong relationships the company builds with management teams set it apart and, with all decision-making, underwriting and portfolio management taking place from the company’s Manchester base, the office’s location, look and feel were crucial for its relationships with clients.
In recent years much has been said about smart cities and smart buildings but people rarely understand what the label can actually mean in real terms. Together with the client FC Ingenieure in Karlsruhe and the technology company Merck, the architects at 3deluxe have succeeded in coming up with an attractive building ensemble with an interesting, innovative glass façade which adds a fascinating new facet to intelligent architecture.
A building is intelligent if it does not just stand there but can respond not only to the requirements of its users but also to external factors. At best, it can make people more comfortable while simultaneously optimizing energy efficiency. The FC Campus building’s intelligent architectural element is a sheet of foil, something normally used in smartphones, integrated into its glass structure.
Henry David Thoreau once praised Walden Lake as a teardrop of the God, and hence evoked numerous people’s yearning for lakeside living.
Everyone has a lake in their mind, which brings them serenity, poetry and purity in the bustling city.
Lakeside living, ideal life
Living beside lake is amazing, which enables people to get close to nature and enjoy a peaceful life. As embracing the first light of the sun in the morning and overlooking the rippling waterscape, the mood is refreshed.
