East Point Park Bird Sanctuary Pavilions in Toronto, Canada by PLANT Architect Inc.

Tuesday, May 10th, 2016

Article source: PLANT Architect Inc.

The new pavilions at East Point Park Bird Sanctuary use architecture as a means of framing one of Toronto’s most beautiful parks, while enhancing the pleasures of birding for visitors of all ages and levels of experience. Folded into angular shapes evocative of flight, sheets of laser-cut weathering steel form the pavilions for this wooded park on the Scarborough Bluffs, high above Lake Ontario. The materials palette, which also includes precast and cast-in-place concrete and galvanized grating, was chosen for durability and minimal environmental impact. The completed Phase One encompasses the Viewing Pavilion, a Bird Blind, and entry signage.

National Grid’s HQ, National Grid House, on the outskirts of Warwick, within view of the Historic Castle, houses some 2800 staff. It is operational 24 hours a day, every day of the year and is a site which controls and is critical to the power distribution infrastructure in the UK.  National Grids commitment to sustainability in all their undertakings has meant that the brief for a new car park on this site would always lead to something extraordinary – with the car park now finished it has literally come alive.

Bartok park in Arnhem, Netherlands by Buro Harro

Thursday, April 14th, 2016

Article source: Buro Harro

A former wasteland in the centre of Arnhem (Netherlands) is transformed to an iconic park: A flourishing heather landscape with a huge PartyAardvark (an artwork by Florentijn Hofman) lying amidst of it. Together with office D.T.O. we took the initiative to transform this desolate area – due to the economic crisis – to a patch of spectaculair nature in the city. The Bartok Park is a symbol for Arnhem: a city that is uniquely situated on the edge of the Natural Park the Veluwe, but doesn’t seem to take much pride in this fact. The vegetation is transplanted from that Natural Park into the city centre: we brought nature literally to the city.

The park is one of the central amenities to the Moffett Place campus, which was recently leased to Google in its entirety. The campus is the 2nd largest office project under construction in Silicon Valley.
