Reviving the Vision

One hundred fifty years ago, Khedive Ismail imagined a progressive urban scheme for Cairo that brought the city to the forefront of the world. This projects attempts to revive his vision in a current way. It brings back the once exciting landscape of Azbakia Garden, including a lake, artificial hills, thousands of lights, and spaces for musical performances. A spectacular Opera House and a range of artistic spaces offer the city cultural delights. New transportation structures, underground parking, a tramway, and pleasant pedestrian spaces allow for convenient and efficient access. Finally, contemporary architecture and high-rises lend an image to the area that rivals with any world-class city.

Remodeling Molinao Park in Spain by Vaumm Arkitektura

Saturday, February 9th, 2013

Article source: Vaumm Arkitektura

The proposal of Molinao Park pretends to be the continuity of the park situated along the riverside and the eastern end of the town to the highway and Don Bosco slope. The front on (sports space) is situated at the southern end of the park, next to the pedestrian access from the Oarso street bridge, so that releases the largest area of the open space to the north, near the train viaduct and the possible accesses through it to create a space which allows the use of it with temporary uses.

Kic Park in Shanghai, China by 3GATTI Architecture Studio

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

Article source: 3GATTI Architecture Studio

Kik Park is a leftover urban area that Francesco Gatti is surprised to see has escaped being built-up and which is positioned at the entrance to the Kic Village, constructed in recent years for the students at the nearby universities of Fudan and Tongji.  Since 2005 when the Italian architect transferred part of his professional activities to China he has recurrently been interested in the possibility of designing interstice spaces – as in the case of the In Factory JingAn Six Loft Buildings (2006), where the outside areas of the redevelopment project were treated on a par with a residential and work environment.

Webb Chapel Park Pavilion in Dallas, Texas by Cooper Joseph Studio

Sunday, January 13th, 2013

Article source: Cooper Joseph Studio

In Dallas, Texas, the Department of Parks and Recreation is working to replace several decaying, minimal 1960s shelters in the surrounding metropolitan public parks. Sandwiched between a community soccer field and playground, this simple pavilion embraces a passive, natural cooling system that becomes one with the spatial design.
