Article source: Mecanoo architecten

Yenikapı, ‘New Gate’, will become a railroad and maritime transfer centre in Istanbul that connects Europe with Asia, as well as the inner city with the surrounding megapolis and the rest of the country. Mecanoo architecten, in cooperation with local partner Cafer Bozkurt Architecture, designs the new gateway of 52,000 m², which will be a vital strategic intersection point handling 1.7 million people on a daily basis. Sitting on top of excavations that have changed the known history of Ancient Istanbul as an urban centre, Yenikapı will also host an Archaeo-Park with a museum and city archive of 36,000 m². The total area of the site is 27.7 ha and includes public space and several parks.

Saturday, April 28th, 2012

Article source: Casagrande & Rintala

Potemkin stands as a post industrial temple, the Acropolis to re-think of the connection between the modern man and nature. I see Potemkin as a cultivated junk yard situated between the ancient rice fields and the river with a straight axis to the Shinto temple.

Museo del Acero Horno3 in Monterrey, Mexico by Surfacedesign Inc. + Harari arquitectos

Article source: Surfacedesign Inc.+ Harari arquitectos

Project Statement

A team of international designers collaborated to transform a decommissioned blast furnace and a brownfield site into a modern history museum dedicated to the region’s rich history of steel production. Borrowing from materials endemic to the site, innovative landscape design weaves together with modern architecture to usher an old relic into the 21st century. Environmentally sensitive technologies — such as green roofs and a storm water collection system — offer a new approach to the landscape while respecting the original context.

Multiple Natures – Fibrous Tower in Taichung, Taiwan by soma (designed with Rhino and Grasshopper)

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

Article source: soma

A new tower typology
The Taiwan Tower will become an innovative landmark people can identify with in present as well as in future times. Therefore the tower should not state a fixed message, but trigger people to invent their own interpretations of the tower’s meaning. To evoke multiply and diverse associations the tower has to be illusive and complex. It will become a dynamic and contemporary landmark that celebrates diversity.

Torreblanca Park in Alicante, Spain by Estudio Carme Pinós

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Article source: Estudio Carme Pinós

It is a marginal lot, leftover from the uncontrolled growth of Torrevieja. The strong contour change in both sides of the lot makes the construction very complicated.

The project consists in replanting with pine trees the slopes, turning them into a forest where small paths go down to the lower level. It is at this level where the paths entwine aromatic planting beds, always in circles. Sometimes these circles get volume, metal trellis work that supports vines. We wanted our garden to be a concentration of perfumes in which we are submerged as we descend.
