Aviapolis is a large urban district flanking the Helsinki International Airport (Airport City Aviapolis) and a part of the municipality and the City of Vantaa that is a part of the greater Helsinki metropolitan area. The Aviapolis Core area is located next a the railway station and the City’s ambition is for it to become the most dense, mixed and accessible area in Aviapolis. As a starting point the area will be home for 1,000-2,000 inhabitants and 10,000 jobs.

Zhoushan Harbour
The local government of Zhou Shan (East China – an archipelago of islands) confided to Wang Shu the mission to rehabilitate the harbour and industrial area of the Lujiazhi Island into a touristic and cultural area, while protecting the quays and keeping maritime activities as memory of the industrial past of the bay. Turning this into a multinational project of innovative contemporary architecture, Wang Shu involved his 14 fellow laureate architect of the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture 2007 to 2009. Each of the 16 projects focuses on contemporary sustainable architecture.

When I visited the triangular site in Cheongpyeong Lake, I felt as if I was floating on the lake. It was like standing on a prow. The whole site was composed of gneiss, giving it an image of hard and solid earth. Inspired by the land, we started the master plan for a unique leisure experience. The site is about 2,500 pyeong (approx 8,264.5m2), largely divided into exterior space, art gallery, restaurant, welcome center, and glamping area. Access circulation is divided into public areas, open to everyone; the art gallery, which is semi-public; and glamping zones, used as private accommodation for guests. Boulders, which consist of rocks that settled down there, were reinterpreted as a platform that overlooks the lake, i.e. an open square. The spaces required were realized as places embedded in the rock. It is designed so that the architecture is not exposed, but made in the earth, where the roof of the space is the platform, or the square. Stairs, floors and ramps were made using rocks from the site, so that actions such as walking barefoot and lying on the ground would take place in the outdoor space.
Dock G6 lies on the concrete slab around the wet docks, situated between the neighbourhoods of the Chartrons and Bacalan in Bordeaux. It enjoys a prime position, directly adjacent to wet dock n°1 and situated between the Promenade des Bassins and Rue Lucien Faure which runs from the Jacques Chaban-Delmas vertical lift bridge to the start of Cours Balguerie-Stuttenberg.
Before the Nicolas Michelin et Associés (ANMA) agency defined an urban redevelopment plan for the area in 2010, the concrete slab was home to an industrial site comprising warehouses, storage silos, wet and dry docks, a submarine base, cranes and a lot of very silty water… These elements shaped a universe enriched by the varied palette of its raw materials and which was in need of a form of redevelopment which would not betray its essence. This is why the architectural identity of this hotel complex has been designed on the principle of an inhabited exoskeleton which enters into meaningful dialogue with the spirit of the place.
The new high quality housing project will offer innovative urban apartments that will contribute to densify Oslo. It’slocated in a residential area with buildings from the eighteen century. The housing complex consists of three blocksof increasing height from four to six stories. The two smaller blocks towards the north have the same footprint and aprinciple of four apartments per floor. The southernmost building has a more complex arrangements of six to eightapartments per floor with a range of sizes. The lower floors has multiple smaller units, while larger apartments are placed in the upper floors.
The monumental metal sheet factory (Zware Plaatwerkerij) on the former shipyard in the heart of Vlissingen, and the adjacent site, have been transformed into a residential care centre. The residential centre has 55 apartments for somatic care, 6 group accommodation units for psychogeriatric residents and 54 care and/or assisted-living apartments. In addition, the ground floor accommodates a restaurant, a training and education room, studios, a hairdresser, a shop, a physiotherapy room, a theatre auditorium and a parking garage.
MVRDV has begun construction on Downtown One, a 140-metre tall mixed-use skyscraper in Tirana that will become Albania’s tallest building. The most striking element of the 37-storey tower is its relief of cantilevered houses and offices, which form a pixelated ‘map’ of Albania, each representing a town or city, turning this building into an icon in the heart of Tirana, Albania. Completion of the building, which was designed for developer Kastrati Construction, is expected in 2024.
Downtown One is envisioned as an expression celebrating the progress of Albania, located in central Tirana on the Bajram Curri Boulevard, to the south of the Lana River. On its principle façades, the 140-metre rectilinear tower features a series of cantilevered houses and offices, forming a relief pattern on the building’s surface. Every house or office represents a village or town, so that when viewed from a distance, these cantilevers form an abstracted map of Albania.
Timeless architecture is the philosophy of Mecanoo & MAYU’s design for the National Taiwanese Archive: a building that hosts the memory and the collective identity.
The National Archives building is composed of two volumes: one that extends horizontally, forming a large canopy, protecting the ground floor, establishing the relation interior-exterior; the other, a perfect cube, landed on top of the horizontal volume.
Following its clear shape, the building is also organized in two zones: the public and the restrict access areas. The public zone is located in the east part of the site, connected to Wenhuayi road, while the restrict access area is organized on the west part.
The contemporary society understands the code of luxury represented by the black and white contrast. Hence, a place where luxury meets natural life and vernacular tradition, was the core idea throughout the design process of The Village – Outlet Shopping Center.

This architectural complex goes against the traditional pattern and creates a gable roof style cluster of elements, bringing about impressive visual impact. Based on the “harmonious unity of tradition, modernity, and function”, this project creates a brand new luxury lifestyle shopping experience.
Shenzhen has been growing rapidly since being named a ‘special economic zone’ in 1980. High-rise structures have transformed the city’s skyline as its population has grown to over 12 million. Located in the city’s eastern Longgang district, the Cultural Centre contributes a rich and varied cultural programme housed in an iconic urban connector.
