Absam Primary School in Austria by Schenker Salvi Weber

Friday, December 23rd, 2016

Article source: Schenker Salvi Weber

All moved in! The extension of the primary school in the Tyrolean municipality of Absam was completed in September 2016. After one-and-a-half years of construction, kids are now frolicking around in the two-story kindergarten. The first sport classes are already taking place in the triple gymnasium, and sweet sounds are floating down from the new music school under the roof of the historic primary school building.

There wasn’t much space for the new building in the 7000-person community of Absam, the “village of the Olympians” in the Hall-Wattens region, just 20 minutes by car from Innsbruck. So the architects Schenker Salvi Weber – the only ones among the 20 competition participants – decided to situate the sports hall underground and, for structural reasons, build the two-story kindergarten atop in a lightweight wood frame construction.

Maple Street School in Brooklyn, New York by BARKER FREEMAN design office and 4Mativ

Saturday, December 17th, 2016

Article source: BARKER FREEMAN design office

The new location for the Maple Street School Preschool in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn is housed on the second floor of The Parkline, Hudson Companies Incorporated and Marvel Architects’ new LEED-GOLD mixed-use and mixed income complex on Flatbush Avenue. The school project is a joint venture between BFDO Architects and 4|Mativ Design Studio, both based in Brooklyn. Marvel Architects served as the architect of record and collaborated with BFDO and 4|Mativ to bring the project through construction. The design brief called for a program of three open, interconnected classrooms with a shared multi purpose space and roof play space. Maple flooring, surfaces and furniture throughout provide visual unity to the space. Touches of color at details and apertures frame openings between rooms in unexpected yet playful ways.

Newly built double pre-school facility in Wiesendangen, Switzerland by SINGER BAENZIGER ARCHITEKTEN

Sunday, November 1st, 2015

Article source: SINGER BAENZIGER ARCHITEKTEN

This double pre-school or kindergarten facility and a recently completed gym serve as extensions of the school grounds to the east.

Separated from the surrounding single-family homes, the pre-school building reflects the orientation of the existing school structures. The staggered construction produces an entrance area with plenty of sunlight and a shady and well-protected outside space at the back of the building. The main entrance is covered and slightly set back.

The plot presents two problems: being exposed to the view of the houses around it and the noise of the train. The project could be understood as the answer to both facts.

Preschool of Aknaibich in Morocco by BC architects + MAMOTH

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

Article source: BC architects + MAMOTH

The preschool of Aknaibich is only 1 classroom, nevertheless a holistic architectural design, incorporating community dynamics, bioclimatics and a new vernacular style.

Aknaibich is a town in transition: the eastern old town is made of earthen constructions, sinusoid roads and narrow alleys, while the western part exists of modern, plot-based concrete houses built by rural-urban emigrants. In need of educational infrastructure, Good planet foundation presided by French photographer Yann-Arthus Bertrand aims to install a preschool with bioclimatic functioning, as an extension to the existing concrete school building in the modern part of town.

Toshin Satelite Preparatory School in Kobe, Japan by Matsuya Art Works.co.ltd.

Sunday, November 9th, 2014

Article source: Matsuya Art Works.co.ltd.

The building designed as the new school building for the Toshin Satellite Preparatory School is a rental property in an area with a high concentration of girls’ schools, with our client, Matsuo Gakuin, occupying the building as a tenant. The building in question faces a bustling shopping street which also serves as a busy school route for students. The exterior of the building facing the shopping district is made entirely of glass. It was anticipated that the impression created by the interior design of the building, visible to students passing by the glass exterior, would have a positive impact on increasing student enrollment numbers.

Nuevo Continente Pre-school in Celaya, Mexico by Miguel Montor

Tuesday, July 15th, 2014

Article source: Miguel Montor

As a follow-up of the master renovation plan for the Nuevo Continente School, campus Queretaro, comes the opportunity for this new exercise which corresponds to the pre-school building.

It is one of the key pieces for the school’s image, since it is not only the pre-school building, but it is the piece through which people enter the complex. It is also the direct contact with the city, taking full dialogue with the urban strip, which, though shy, is already present all the way to this side of the city.
