This project responds to the need for renovating the Mahou concesión stands in the “Sports Palace” of Madrid, and it is tackled from the respect to the building, a versatile space that hosts from concerts to congresses or basketball games. Our proposal intends to preserve the current brand identity without competing with the industrial style interiors of the space, which are designed with cold and resistant finishes.
The original project for this 1960’s building follows the standard typology for high-traffic spaces like stadiums and large venues, with a ring-shaped circulation scheme that allow reaching the main stage from different levels. It is in these corridors or “streets” where most of the renovated spaces are located, while others are directly inside the stage. This entails different design considerations depending on each stand location and the circulation and public flow of the different events.
This Project consists of the integral renovation of a home in Petrer (Alicante).
The existing building occupied a constructed surface of 138m2, 19 of which correspond to a porch. By law, this surface could not be extended and consequently the project needed to be based on an exact alteration of the existing building.
Diagonally opposite the county hall in Den Bosch stood the former Rijkswaterstaat office building (1977). It was built in a brutalist, no-nonsense concrete architecture, but placed within the neighbourhood with surprising sensitivity and modesty, as if it were a guest. Yet it is here to stay.
The character of this building, with its strikingly heavy construction, projections and special concrete details, was reason enough to redevelop it in a sustainable way. From an urban development perspective, it was also important not to add any (new build) volumes to this location. The main question was how this building, which was socially isolated within the area, could be transformed into a building that was no longer a guest, but an integral part of the neighbourhood.

The project was born from the need to recover an old house located in the historic center of the city of Mérida, México.
Casa Deco is one of the few houses in the historic center of Merida that are characterized by having the architectural style that bears its name; This style was not the original style of the house but the result of a remodeling of the facade, so we decided to show the pre-existences both formal and functional that the house has suffered during its long life.
Mission Branch Library Renovation, Santa Clara, California
Noll & Tam Architects Breathe New Life into a Treasured Community Asset
Surrounded by City Park and located close to downtown Santa Clara and a number of schools, the Mission Branch Library has been an essential resource to the community since it opened in 1954. Built as the first stand-alone library in the city, the building had received only minor updates since first opening, and was in desperate need of a refresh to enhance comfort, create a more welcoming atmosphere, and bring it into the 21st century.

Works to the ground floor include the repositioning of the main entrance door to improve its prominence. The refurbished reception features a new passenger lift, polished concrete floor, bespoke feature lighting, and a bespoke brass directory. Washroom areas are brought up to modern standards with superloo WCs and shower facilities. New signage and wayfinding throughout gives the building a clear identity.
Across the first and second floors, the intention was to work with the existing structure of the building and reveal its original character; expressing the steel structure and brickwork walls. This sensitive approach to the aesthetic was associated with reflecting the local street scene and historic area.
The project site is nested in a well preserved hutong area in Beijing Xicheng District. Both the main office and a small residential part had to be integrated within a limited footprint of 200 sqm with minimum interventions on the original layout and the client requested a flexible spatial organization that could accommodate different uses in the future.
Black steel boxes were inserted to connect the existing volumes, transforming the site from a traditional living space into a multifunctional modern office. The new volumes break down the existing barren exterior space into four gardens of intimate scales and diverse atmospheres. A route is delineated along the 19m long North-South axis with an orchestrated sequence of different spatial experiences and changing views to transit from the public office to the private living part of the building.

The base is located at the southwest corner of the intersection of San Tai Shan Road and Hu Pao Road of West Lake District in Hangzhou. There are some hills surrounded with wide viewing; the landscape is beautiful inside and the natural vegetation well preserved.
This mid-terrace Victorian house in Brook Green was reconfigured and extended to create a dramatic vertical space. An opening was formed in the floor at raised ground level, connecting the reception rooms with the kitchen and dining room below. A new douglas fir stair descends through this double-height volume, and the lowest three steps form part of the precast concrete work surface.
Internal architecture could name the process through which Mr. Barrett’s House has gone through. An interesting idea, directly borrowed from the medical world, would be to call ourselves internists in this sort of surgical intervention.
Everything has been developed from the inside. There is a clear logic to do so when architecture has to face spaces of intimacy, places where the privacy and the interaction and complexity of human relations appear at its least public environment. It is thus about interiority. And the project literally took these criteria as a starting point to develop its conception and construction.
