House K in Sulzberg, Austria by Dietrich Untertrifaller

Thursday, March 2nd, 2023

Article source: Dietrich Untertrifaller

In the far north of the Bregenzerwald lies the small community of Sulzberg on the ridge of the same-named mountain. We built a house on a steep slope in the middle of a densely built-up residential area, which makes perfect use of the limited plot of land. Due to the extreme slope, we have divided the spaces into three floors. You enter the house on the street side on the top level via a wide footbridge. Here you will find the garage, a small guest room and the spacious, open living room. Designed with maximum transparency and openness, it is only structured by the free-standing kitchen unit. The entire south front is glazed and, together with the terrace in front, celebrates the fantastic view over the Bregenzerwald to the high Vorarlberg mountains. The wide cantilevered roof panel provides protection from the weather and excessive sunlight.

Article source: MUKA Arquitectura

In an urban context where adjoining houses are necessarily attached to each other at the side walls to form a linear succession of juxtaposed volumes, materials and heights, this project seeks to vindicate a different way of engaging with urban planning and approaching the potential forms of a single-family dwelling, as well as its relationship with its surroundings.

Article source: Sparano + Mooney Architecture

Located in Emigration Canyon just above Salt Lake City, this home designed for a young family celebrates a uniquely elevated canyon view with a rare and direct connection to nature. As a result, the homeowners enjoy framed views of the mountain vista at every turn, with unparalleled indoor/outdoor connections.

The home’s dramatic architecture is separated into two volumes that float above the landscape, each of which are finished with a blackened stain in the tradition of wabi sabi.

Article source: UNEMORI ARCHITECTS

There are two houses in a quiet residential area with verdant greenery. One is my own house and the other is my sister-in-law`s family. While the two families wanted to live independently, they also wished to support one another and desired to establish a common space such as a garden and atelier to enjoy a lifestyle that allows for a sense of expansion that is difficult to achieve as a single household.

House Mesh in Linz, Austria by Caramel architekten

Wednesday, March 1st, 2023

Article source: Caramel architekten

The main aim of the design and the client’s request was a future-oriented handling of materials and a building that was integrated into the environment.
A generous green roof as a cut-out and folded landscape forms the largest space-forming element of the house. The lightweight timber construction with a ventilated metal facade and large glass elements form the remaining outer skin surfaces. The intersection of the massive terrace plateau with the edge of the terrain forms only a partial adaptation to the topography, which is why the building stands out from the terrain on the north / west side.

The Skokie Valley Synagogue renovation transformed the sanctuary, built in 1963, from a dark and formal space to an ethereal, light-filled and ADA accessible room for communal prayer.

The original room was a long, dark hall with dim lighting and fixed theater-type seating. The renovation converted the large stage into new, modern bathrooms and a coat room.
