Muse House in London, England by Alexander Martin Architects

Monday, March 2nd, 2020

Article source: Alexander Martin Architects

The house is an early 20th Century dwelling infilled between two semi detached villas within the De Beauvoir estate. The client sought to improve the spatial quality and operation of the house in order to create a calm atmosphere for quiet reflection and meditation.

Retaining the existing facade, it’s neat scale is defined through large open rooms, with deep views front to back that enables the house to function as a continual space. This free flowing arrangement connects the main living spaces, garden and roof terrace whilst private spaces are tightly configured in the centre of the plan, with rooflights and mirrors introduced to enhance natural light.

San Diego ADU / Garage renovation in California by Modern Granny Flat with Ramiro Losada-Amor and Prismatica

Sunday, March 1st, 2020

Article source: Modern Granny Flat with Ramiro Losada-Amor and Prismatica

San Diego Garage Conversion is an integrated garage remodel of a large capacity garage where a couple wanted to live with a lot of flexibility. The space is configured depending on the needs of each moment. For this, several tools were built: mobile panels divide the bedroom into two spaces; a bed integrated into a bookcase converts the living room into a guest bedroom; a mobile island allows different configurations of the kitchen. To make all this possible, the center of the space houses the bathroom, the plumbing part of the kitchen and part of the storage areas. So, the rest of the space is open and configured with ease.

Chapadmalal White Houses in Buenos Aires, Argentina by BiK Arquitectura

Sunday, March 1st, 2020

Article source: BiK Arquitectura

These two cabins for temporary rental are placed on flat terrain close to the South Atlantic Ocean in Chapadmalal, Argentina. Their location considers exposure to sunlight as the interior expands into the exterior. Two small-scale horizontal volumes contrast with a vertical one acting as a long-distance landmark for the whole.

Within a compact and well-defined perimeter, white, abstract, and stereotomic volumes contain the cabins’ interior and exterior spaces. Their limits are built with a single material, regulating permeability and adjusting to orientation and uses.

CASA DG in Rome, Italy by GRIPPO + MURZI

Sunday, March 1st, 2020

Article source: GRIPPO + MURZI

The request of the owners, a young couple, was to build a house that could reflect themselves and was appropriate for the modern rhythms of a family.
The main problem of the apartment, located on the third floor with a terrace, was to be organized in a very fragmented way, with an oversized entrance, a closed kitchen and a dimly lit living room.

Edgecliff Residence in Austin, Texas by Miró Rivera Architects

Friday, February 28th, 2020

Article source: Miró Rivera Architects

Taking advantage of its unique site in Austin’s eclectic Travis Heights neighborhood on the southern shores of Lady Bird Lake, the Edgecliff Residence is a play on contrasts: light and shadow, open and closed, organic and orthogonal. Designed for a couple of empty-nesters on a modest budget, the home’s contemporary aesthetic is balanced by the desire to respect the scale of the existing neighborhood.

Like the houses around it, the dwelling occupies a small lot on a quiet residential street. The design responds to its narrow site with an unusual, trapezoidal floor plan that is essentially one bay deep. The residence is divided into three levels in order to maximize views, with guest quarters at ground level, living spaces on the second floor, and the master suite at the highest level.
