Eclipse house in Sofia, Bulgaria by I/O architects

Monday, February 3rd, 2020

Article source: I/O architects

Utterly introvert, this house is located on the last plot of a desired neighbourhood in the outskirts of Sofia, Bulgaria. The complexity of the program confronts the size of the site thus determining the tree structure of the house. Each of the three stories differs in both size and concealment strategy. The vastest first story is underground yet naturally lit and directly connected to the street and the garden. The compressed and mostly open ground floor together with the small garden is hidden behind the hedge. The privacy and sunlight of the large upper floor are meticulously controlled by big scale sliding panels. Only the simple hovering pigmented zinc volume and the blind entrance are exposed to the street while the rest of the complex structure remains unrevealed. The spaces inside are integrated around the light of the central atrium and pierced by unexpected space connections. The reflective roof of the deep veranda brings back garden view to the interior. The linear underground space of the swimming pool has visual and physical contact with the garden while the bright garage is connected to the rest of the house through an under-stair periscope space.

Changsha Penthouse in Hunan, China by KEY OPERATION INC. / ARCHITECTS

Monday, February 3rd, 2020

Article source: KEY OPERATION INC. / ARCHITECTS

Chinese condominiums are sold in interior skeletons, so buyers are free to work with their own interior contractors.

In the center of the living room, a raised floor furniture is integrated with the sofa so that you can lie down and practice yoga. The floor level is changed to give the space a three-dimensional effect, and the eye level is lowered by sitting on the floor so that the ceiling can be felt higher. Both sides of a raised floor have low shelves, and the window side that was originally a balcony is a space where a mahjong table can be placed, and the dining side is a passage that leads to the bedroom.

AND Pastel in Istanbul, Turkey by Martha Schwartz Partners

Sunday, February 2nd, 2020

Article source: Martha Schwartz Partners

A new development in the expanding Kartal district on the Asian side of Istanbul will open up a proposed, master planned community of mixed uses. The district itself has a history of light industrial and manufacturing uses that are moving away to the urban periphery allowing housing to reinvent the vacated sites, thereby, transforming the precinct. Residential is pushing in rapidly as the MA motorway plus a public transport new Metro station makes this area very accessible and desirable. The AND site is fortunately located atop a high point that slopes down towards the water and the Sea of Marmara. Sitting astride this advantageous pinnacle, apartments on the upper levels will have sea views. Additionally, the site is surrounded by civic parkland that imparts a strong landscape context for the design.

Sooke 01 in Canada by campos studio

Friday, January 31st, 2020

Article source: campos studio

The Sooke house, made for a woman and her dog sits on a rocky knoll where the forest meets the sea. A small clearing nested among the trees upon the knoll provides slices of ocean and mountains through the trunks of the large Pacific Northwest rainforest. These fractured and partial perceptions of the forest and its surroundings gave us inspiration to design a house that framed discreet experiences; as a way to make present the maxim that you cannot see the forest through the trees.

Building in Travessa Alferes Malheiro, Portugal by FRANCA ARQUITECTURA

Friday, January 31st, 2020

Article source: FRANCA ARQUITECTURA

The Alferes Malheiro Street starts at Largo Tito Fontes, showing us the central city, step by step, almost in a quiet hypnotizing thriler. The south point draws a skyline with the tower of the Trindade, seeing as if the centre lays itself under the tower, forgetting about all the architectural and urban transformations that the city has suffered, where co-exist ruptures and interpretations of the traditional architecture.

Architecturally, with the rehabilitation of the facade and the new proposal of volume, it contributes to the consolidation of the character of the street, completing the height of the buildings on the street and the dominant alignment. The biggest change is the adding of more floors (The North building has ground floor plus three and the South building has ground floor plus two), redrawing the east facade, faced by the street and increasing the height in order to reach the same as the aside building.

E&A 64 House in Yucatan, Mexico by Taller Estilo Arquitectura

Friday, January 31st, 2020

Article source: Taller Estilo Arquitectura

EA64 HOUSE is a living space located in Merida´s historic center that seeks a dialogue between colonial and contemporary architecture. The Patios or courtyards are a real composition system, making them the main element that configure the structural order, the interior and exterior visuals which are part of the path. The scale variation and the use of the preexisting galleries, helped us for the access and light capture, as for a proper management of the exterior space.
