Nihinihi Avenue in Raglan, New Zealand by Dorrington Architects & Associates

Friday, March 9th, 2012

Article source: Dorrington Architects & Associates

Located to capture views over the river estuary and distant harbor entrance, this modern holiday home is a composition of separate forms – two black-stained timber boxes that overhang a concrete plinth. Full of surprises, the house transforms effortlessly from cozy individual spaces to open plan when required. A covered deck opening from the living space provides another intimate space within the whole.

Cutting resort environment out of urban environment

Nowhere resort is the resort program that is renting out weekly vacation house. Suggesting new urban life style by making shorten the distance to weekend house from standard 3 hours up to 1 hour. The environment must get close to urban when shorten the distance, the issue comes to how to cut off resort environment out of there. Therefore Nowhere but Sajima comes to build long and thin tube-like spaces that bundle them into one home unit. The tube-like spaces are facing toward the ocean and at the same time intercept the sight from the next condominium. The building is controlling both privacy and scenery.

Osthang in Härjedalen, Sweden by Daniel Fagerberg Arkitekter

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Article source: Daniel Fagerberg Arkitekter

Background, strategy
The Osthang ski resort was initiated in April 2006. Working closely with the client, we led a record pace design and construction phase where the first flats were handed over in April 2007. Osthang is located in Ramundberget ski resort, towards the Norwegian border in Härjedalennorth westsweden. The five houses clings on to the steep Osthang cliff from where you have a magnificent view towards the surrounding mountain peaks. The site plan originates from the traditional base-court typology that provides Härjedalen with its special rural character. We have organized the buildings along the hillside forming this courtyard with the gables. The project includes four buildings divided in three apartments over two floors and a loft, and an additional house with two apartments.
