Karavaan in Amsterdam, The Netherlands by STUDIO MODIJEFSKY

Friday, January 31st, 2020

Article source: STUDIO MODIJEFSKY

A new exciting venue has opened its doors in Amsterdam West: Karavaan. This place can be anything you want it to be – all day hangout, bar, your morning coffee place, the spot for Friday night drinks, a neighbourhood cafe for locals, city oasis, cocktail bar, breakfast club, but also your favourite venue for a good meal. Karavaan is all these things in one.

Kwakersplein – the square where the venue is located – has been transformed throughout history. Initially a polder area outside Amsterdam’s old city limits, it became a part of the Bellamy neighbourhood after being dammed in the 19th century. Ever since, people have been migrating towards this spot, just like a Karavaan (Dutch for caravan), but this time to settle for good.

Bambu Desserts and Drinks in California by Diebel and Company | Architects

Wednesday, January 29th, 2020

Article source: Diebel and Company | Architects

Bambu Shoppe is and dessert and drink restaurant located along historic El Camino Real, which dates to California’s Spanish colonial past. It is a counter-service cafe for Chè, a Vietnamese word for home-made beverages, dessert drinks, and puddings. Bambu Shoppe Chè is made to order using daily prepared, fresh, colorful, and nutritious ingredients.

The space was originally built in the early 1900s, features 14-foot high ceilings, a glass facade with bar seating, and concrete floors. The interior architecture is clean, minimalist, and inviting. The architects inserted into the light-filled dining space, a warm wood slat wall that curves to the ceiling. The space is calm and serene. Its restrained color palette is a foil to the naturally colorful food ingredients.

The Italian Job – Chiswick in London by Pardini Hall Architecture

Friday, January 24th, 2020

Article source: Pardini Hall Architecture

The Italian Job is the first pub to bring Italian Craft Beer to Londoners. Utilising this unique selling point we drew inspiration from copper, a material integral to the production of the beer. From the copper top of the counter to the lighting which features exposed conduits and aged copper shades, this raw material gives the pub an industrial look and feel. Exposed brick walls and a reclaimed wooden flooring, alongside a monochrome colour palette add to this effect.

Can Bordoy -Grand House & Garden in Palma, Spain by OHLAB

Thursday, January 23rd, 2020

Article source: OHLAB

Can Bordoy -Grand House & Garden- is a small 24 room hotel with a magnificent garden, swimming pool, spa and panoramic terrace, located in La Lonja neighborhood, the heart of the historic center of Palma de Mallorca. It is a complete renovation of a 2,500 m2 abandoned building that had been heavily modified throughout its more than 500 years of history. Can Bordoy has been envisioned and developed by businessman Mikael Hall and his family. The architecture and interior design have been carried out by OHLAB, an office directed by the architects Paloma Hernaiz and Jaime Oliver.

One of the most distinctive elements of the property is its garden, not only because of its size in such a dense area of the city, nor for being La Lonja’s largest private garden, but because of the richness and antiquity of the existing vegetation – which includes spectacular hackberries, jacarandas and citrus trees among others- as well as for the sound of the birds that inhabit it. The garden, along with the inner courtyard of the house and the roof terrace with panoramic views over the city, adds up to a total of almost 1,000 m2 of outdoor space. One of the project’s most important interventions has been opening the doors of the garden, until now unknown by the vast majority, to the city and giving it visibility from the entrance courtyard and from the street. Thanks to the new use of the building you can now visit most of the garden through the open terrace of the restaurant.

The Italian Job – Notting Hill in London by Pardini Hall Architecture

Tuesday, January 21st, 2020

Article source: Pardini Hall Architecture

Working with The Italian Job once more on their third venue, Pardini Hall renovated the former Pelican Published House to include a pub, restaurant and cocktail bar, Salotto 900.

Once again, we used copper and patterned tiles, together with the blue and brown colour palette reminiscent of The Italian Job brand. Using colours and materials, we have divided the pub into different function areas while a vibrantly tiled copper counter forms a central focus as you enter the pub.

Forum Groningen in The Netherlands by NL Architects

Wednesday, January 15th, 2020

Article source: NL Architects

Forum Groningen is a new multifunctional building in the center of Groningen, a cultural ‘department store’ filled with books and images, that offers exhibition spaces, movie halls, assembly rooms, restaurants. The Forum aspires to become a platform for interaction and debate, a ‘living room’ for the city.

Forum Groningen is NOT a library, NOT a museum, NOT a cinema, but a new type of public space where the traditional borders between these institutes will dissolve. Information will be presented thematically in a way that transcends the different media.
