Opposites rule: light and darkness create an ideal separation, so the same space can serve the two souls in Japs! – fast and slow. This was a 360° project that went from interior decor to branding, connecting every aspect: for example, the decorative motif in the logo became a graphic and architectural element, in a relationship of perfect symmetry between image and architecture. Now each Japs! restaurant offers a different Japanese specialty, effectively connoting the chain’s different venues and sparking clients’ curiosity.
Boulebar is about community. With the help of pétanqu, food and drinks, you want to make people feel comfortable and socialize. The experience is a destillation of a warm French early summer evening at a bouleodrome in a suburb of Marseille – the gravel, the light from the streetlights, the people, the city and the trees that surround the pétanqu courts.
Boulebar is part of a larger trend among restaurants where food and drink experiences are combined with some form of activity, in this case pétanqu. Boulebar has seven restaurants and the company is today active in the cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Örebro and Copenhagen. All locations have a coherent identity, but with varying expressions and feel depending on the surrounding neighbourhood of each restaurant.

The fifth Ryu sushi restaurant just opened its doors on Peel street in downtown Montreal designed by Ménard Dworkind architecture and design.
Once demolition of the existing space was completed, evidence of the building’s past was revealed. The original walls were found to be covered in a patchwork of plaster, paint, and wallpaper, that had accumulate over the ages. This rich collage inspired MRDK to use the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi for the design direction. Wabi-Sabi is the aesthetic valorisation of the effects of time – its patinas and signs of wear and tear. Therefore, the preservation of these walls was paramount during the design process. From this beginning MRDK chose a minimalist approach and palette to contrast with the existing walls.

Evocative of SOM’s design for the John Hancock Center, 100 Mount is supported by an innovative cross-braced exoskeleton structure. Anchored by an offset core and clad in a soaring glass curtain wall, the tower offers panoramic views of Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Opera House, and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
