Aesop Duke of York Square in Chelsea, London by Snøhetta

Tuesday, November 6th, 2018

Article source: Snøhetta

Situated in Chelsea, London, the store’s design is inspired by the contextual relevance of the location combined with an influence of futuristic elements. The result is an interior characterized by classic architypes, a pale red color palette, and stainless-steel elements.

An existing column is used as the starting point for the store’s layout. From this centralized column, 12 arches stretch towards the perimeter walls. This series of arches function as a key element in creating a sense of organizational hierarchy, establishing visual separators within the space. The arches are clad in a clay based plaster with a subtle gradient color, ranging from a lighter base to a darker shade. Illumination from between the arches further emphasizes the gradient effect.

The project is designed by Vudafieri-Saverino Partners, Milanese Studio which since 2012 has been taking care of the Delvaux boutiques’ design worldwide (more than 40, among which the last openings in London and Hong Kong). The Park is a six-story hybrid structure, which merges a 441-space parking garage with 27,000-square-feet of street-level retail. Located in the booming Warehouse District of downtown New Orleans, The Park captures the aesthetic rigor of the existing 19th century warehouses, while rethinking this overly conventional building typology and its construction methods. At 205,000-square-feet, The Park blends in and adapts to an evolving hub of urban activity, while tastefully preserving the style of the surrounding historic neighborhood.
