38 Housing units in Rue Bonnet, France by Avenier Cornejo Architectes

Friday, January 6th, 2017

Article source: Avenier Cornejo Architectes

The 38 social housing units at 10/12 rue Bonnet in the city of Clichy-la-Garenne completed for Efidis (social housing landlord) are located at the doorstep of Paris, along the périphérique beltway.

At the edge of the capital and its inner suburbs, they look towards both the Clichy-Batignolles district and the new high court designed by Renzo Piano, and the greater Paris area. Inside and out, they embody the metropolitan issue of eliminating borders. The architects seem to have set a roadmap to relay the dynamism that characterizes the urban development zone of Batignolles in a disparate environment. It is this double relationship with the city dictating the physiognomy of the building that seems to transcend the limits of the périphérique to connect two different urbanities towards a common future.

BRIC Phase One in San Diego, California by John Portman & Associates

Sunday, December 25th, 2016

Article source: John Portman & Associates

BRIC Phase One is a dual-branded Marriott with a 253-key select service Springhill Suites hotel and a 147-key extended stay Residence Inn hotel, leased retail areas for shops and restaurants and above-grade structured parking. The complex’s name, BRIC, is in reference to the site’s location at BRoadway and PacifIC. With the inclusion of publicly-accessible shops, restaurants and terraces at various levels along the west side of the building facing a public park, the project extends the public realm vertically, allowing for great views of the San Diego Bay and the events that occur along the waterfront. As a nod to the history of the site as the former location of Lane Field ballpark, these retail and terrace spaces step back from the park in such a way as to recall the bleachers of old.

Article source: Studio RHE

Built in 1993, Republic is a 600,000 square feet office development with retail and leisure amenities and 471 car parking spaces situated on a prominent 6.4-acre island site in the London Docklands. It is currently being refurbished and reimagined by Trilogy Property and La Salle Investment Management to appeal to the burgeoning innovation, co-working, cultural and tech sectors. With a distinctive building wrap from Studio Hingston and designs from award-winning architect Studio RHE, Republic aims to provide competitive rents to young talent priced out of central London locations such as the West End and Shoreditch.

Republic’s location, directly accessed by East India DLR station in E14, anticipates the eastward migration of the creative and digital sectors and cultural institutions, such as the English National Ballet’s move to London City Island and Olympicopolis in Stratford, and enjoys a Zone 2 location and transport links which connects in minutes to the established business districts of Canary Wharf, the City and West End, as well as the cultural neighbourhoods of Stratford and Shoreditch.
