Article source: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), Architectus, and Dexus Property Group

On June 19th, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), Architectus, and Dexus Property Group, along with Australian civic and business leaders, marked the the completion and opening of 100 Mount Street, a 39-story glass-enclosed mixed-use tower in the heart of North Sydney’s Central Business District.

The design for 100 Mount was inspired by Sydney’s rich architectural landscape and shaped by SOM’s legacy of innovation in architecture and engineering worldwide. Evocative of SOM’s design for the John Hancock Center, 100 Mount is supported by an innovative cross-braced exoskeleton structure. Anchored by an offset core and clad in a soaring glass curtain wall, the tower offers panoramic views of Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Opera House, and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The tower’s interiors are designed to maximise daylight and open space, with 6-metre column-free zones to the north and south.

Arapinis Kosmima – Swarovski in Athens, Greece by 9901 | ARCHITECTS

Sunday, June 9th, 2019

Article source: 9901 | ARCHITECTS

Based on the need to expand the existing jewelry store and maintain the merge of two adjacent spaces the project consists of minimalistic and pure lines.

Considering the in-between wall as a fact that cannot be reversed, the three dimensional black L-shape structure becomes the focal point that flows through the otherwise white interior, guides the eyesight through the space and connects the two rooms.

Two categories of products are to be distinguished and equally displayed: the Swarovski jewelry, figurines, ornaments etc. and every other kind of jewelry someone can wish for in a jewelry store. Two types of display areas are used. Vertical / wall display areas and horizontal / table display areas, that provide equal and quality observation of the offered goods of all types.

Axis Building in Cape Town, South Africa by dhk

Wednesday, June 5th, 2019

Article source: dhk

dhk Architects has completed an apartment block conceived as a monolith with indentations and cut-outs. The building features 85 luxury residential apartments and penthouses supplemented with small-scale commercial and retail space at ground level. Occupying a prominent corner position in growing suburb Century City in Cape Town, the landmark development has been designed to capitalise on enviable views of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean.

The building connects to the environment in a myriad of strategic ways and sets a precedent for urban conscious residential developments in the city. The compact form of the building wraps around itself and gradually rises, orientating most of the apartments towards views of the city. Its unique doughnut-shaped form is adorned with visual gashes that allow the sheltered walkway spaces to catch glimpses of the city around it, connecting the inside circulation to the outside world. The rising form cuts away, creating dynamic terraces and activity at differing heights, culminating in generous penthouse units. Transporting every inhabitant on a scenic journey to their destination, a large panoramic lift runs the full height of the building and is positioned at the pinnacle of its mass. A stand-out element of the design, the exterior of the lift is completely clad in red aluminium and sits within a glass shaft facing Table Mountain.
