All moved in! The extension of the primary school in the Tyrolean municipality of Absam was completed in September 2016. After one-and-a-half years of construction, kids are now frolicking around in the two-story kindergarten. The first sport classes are already taking place in the triple gymnasium, and sweet sounds are floating down from the new music school under the roof of the historic primary school building.
There wasn’t much space for the new building in the 7000-person community of Absam, the “village of the Olympians” in the Hall-Wattens region, just 20 minutes by car from Innsbruck. So the architects Schenker Salvi Weber – the only ones among the 20 competition participants – decided to situate the sports hall underground and, for structural reasons, build the two-story kindergarten atop in a lightweight wood frame construction.

The project includes the construction of an elementary school and the extension of a kindergarten. The aim is to build a contextual architecture, fully merged in its environment.
Pavilion architecture that smoothly fits its surrounding vegetation by limiting the footprint and preserving the existing trees. Moreover, there is no physical barrier thus allowing the view to embrace the entire site. The volumes are made of compressed earth block (CEB), and are covered with light metallic roofs.
The French School of Beijing, designed by Jacques Ferrier Architecture and Sensual City Studio, has been imagined as a built landscape. It is being developed on a site in the “Orchard” neighbourhood, which takes its name from the old orchards which, until recently, were a defining feature of this stretch of land alongside the road to the airport. Since then, the development of high-end residential blocks and international schools has introduced a new urban character with collections of low rise buildings alongside generous green spaces.
One school per floor, one playground per level: outside spaces accessed directly from their relative interior spaces; 3 ‘ground’-floors. A metaphor for the world, nature, ecosystems; the sky, the forest, the earth.
The creche occupies the ‘climatic’ layer: façades reflecting the sky, clouds and the ‘protective’ tree canopy.
In 2011, the practice won an invited competition to design a new arts building for the well-established independent school in St John’s Wood. Taking its cue from the mass and footprint of the listed, semi-detached villas on the site adjacent, the four-storey building is designed to resemble a single large property. The complexity of the project is heightened by its location on a prominent corner plot in the St John’s Wood conservation area, where proposed developments attract a lot of attention.
The project is located at the heart of a city block in a school playground. The new volume extends an existing school building up the slope of the passageway that leads onto the site, and settles itself onto the playground’s sloping surface.

AMIRÁ occupies a prime location in the City of Queretaro, and overlooks it from the heights of the Diamante neighborhood. The distant surroundings are a visual complement to those nearby. The vantage point played an essential role in the design process and evokes a reciprocal relationship between the architecture and the city. The project footprint and volumetric solution encompass each residence and many amenities feature unobstructed views of the city.
Amani enjoys a privileged location within one of the new developments in the city of Puebla: Lomas de Angelópolis Cascatta. One of the characteristics of this development is that it incorporates a range of services including banks, schools, stores, and green spaces.

Vision
Frederiksbjerg School is the first new-built school located in the center of Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark, in approximately 100 years.
The new school, which also houses a daycare facility and a youth club, is built on the site of former school, Sct. Annagades School. For decades Sct. Annagades School was a well-established gathering place for the local community. This lead to a vision of the new school building supporting the old memoir.
The site of NDSM Nieuwdok site is a former ship dock area at the waterfront of Amsterdam Noord in the Netherlands. The area is currently largely derelict and used by early adapters, like Greenpeace, Red Bull and MTV. The remaining monumental industrial buildings allocate small creative businesses and workshops, while new bars and hip festivals indicate the potential attraction of the area. They are signs of what is about to happen, as in the coming years the area will be transformed into a diverse urban area, with housing, office space, hotels and the like, all with a staggering density. Surrounded by the IJ River and some remaining docks, the water has a strong impact on the site and provides beautiful views.
