Corriente Alterna Visual Arts School in Miraflores, Lima, Peru by Barclay & Crousse

Saturday, May 3rd, 2014

Article source: Barclay & Crousse

The extension of the Visual Arts School of Lima supposes a challenge in different issues:

The relationship between old and new.  The actual building is an architectural landmark, a very good example of neo-colonial architecture of the 1930’s  The addition should be respectful of the existing building but we considered it should also be a testimony for XXIst century architecture in Lima.

Collège Lucie Aubrac is the first secondary school in the region to achieve the BBC label (Low Consumption Building). The project is located in the western part of the city of Tourcoing, in a primarily residential neighborhood along with some educational and social amenities. Due to its remarkable location at the edge of the city, along with its tranquil monumentality, the new school adds a new magnitude to the entry to the city. By opening up to two major axes, Industrial Boulevard and the street Fin de la guerre, the new building draws from the best of the natural conditions of the site.

Library for the community in Muyinga, Burundi by BC Architects

Thursday, February 13th, 2014

Article source: BC Architects

The first library of Muyinga, part of a future inclusive school for deaf children, in locally sourced compressed earth blocks, built with a participatory approach.

Our work in Africa started within the framework of OpenStructures.net. BC was asked to scale the “Open structures” model to an architectural level. A construction process involving end-users and second-hand economies was conceived. Product life cycles, water resource cycles en energy cycles were connected to this construction process. This OpenStructures architectural model was called Case Study (CS) 1: Katanga, Congo. It was theoretical, and fully research-based. 5 years later, the library of Muyinga in Burundi nears completion.
