Tuesday, December 6th, 2016

Article source: Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS Arkitekter MNAL

Paleet is a shopping center situated on the high street Karl Johans gate in the very centre of Oslo. It has operated as a shopping mall since 1990, a new building sitting behind retained historical facades from the 1860’s.

In 2014 Paleet has undergone an extensive refurbishment. The aim has been to create a shopping destination with a strong personality. The project seeks to provide an overall experience through exquisite design as well as offering a range of dining venues and high end boutiques. As a collaboration between Petter Abrahamsen at RISS AS, Linda Knoph Vigsnæs of Lysstoff AS and the architects Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects, the group had a shared design vision from the outset.

Article source: v2com

Situated just outside the town of Meaux, the shopping centre can be accessed via three major roads and thus enjoys exceptional accessibility.

The project drew on the elements of the surrounding area to create a diversified landscape: it fits with the colorful fields of geometrically apportioned agricultural land, the winding meanders of the Ourcq Canal and the buildings of various shapes and sizes to create a fragmented and diversified landscape.

Philips Business Innovation Centre FiftyTwoDegrees in Nijmegen, Netherlands by Mecanoo architecten b.v.

Wednesday, July 20th, 2016

Article source: Mecanoo architecten b.v.

Knowledge centre

At the start of the new millennium, Philips Semiconductors (now NXP) wanted to expand its current production and research site in Nijmegen by creating a new knowledge centre for the development of semiconductors for the electronics industry. The existing production site is sealed off and fenced in for security reasons. The new knowledge centre, where technology, science, culture, work, living and leisure come together, fosters chance encounters and collaboration with diverse parties. The name of the complex, FiftyTwoDegrees, refers to the site’s 52nd degree of latitude, which like the ambition of the initiators, spans the entire world.

Shopping centre Part-Dieu in Lyon, France by MVRDV

Sunday, March 6th, 2016

Article source: MVRDV

Today Gérard Collomb, the Mayor of Lyon, officially announced MVRDV’s transformation of Lyon’s large Part-Dieu shopping centre, the centre piece in a major renovation which includes the surrounding district. The scheme looks to redefine the area’s public space by creating terraces and gardens that step up into the retail complex. The new complex keeps the original identity of the Part-Dieu shopping centre through the re-use and revitalisation of its iconic yet run-down façade, which will ‘evaporate’ as it reaches the new glazed extensions that open up onto the street.
