The multifunctional organisation of the master plan – which includes cultural and tourist facilities as well as commercial, office and residential components – acts as an attractor to the area for visitors, inhabitants and commuters alike.
Following competitions with design entries from national and international architects, UNStudio’s overall design was selected by Wanda as the winning entry for the facade and interior of the Hanjie Wanda Square. Construction is currently underway and the Hanjie Wanda Square is expected to be completed in 2013. It will house international luxury brand stores, world-class boutiques, catering outlets and cinemas.
The old marketplace of Alcañiz has not been home to a market for some years, but now it has once again become a part of the town square, an area for socializing, passing time, and education. The enormous space inside the building has been reconnected to its environment via the introduction of a newly built element. Independent of the existing structure, it is an exercise of occupation strategic, respectful and reversible. Its two levels are enclosed within a homogenous and continuous skin.
The first energy self‐sufficient store that produces more energy than it uses. Organic products and a healthy lifestyle are mega trends in our society and therefore in the food industry as well. When building supermarkets, environmental friendliness and sustainability are becoming increasingly important. Economically and ecologically sustainable construction and operation minimize the ecological footprint and reduce the life‐cycle cost of buildings.
Lentia City is a shopping center in the center of Linz (Austria’s third largest city) with an expanded sales floor of 20,000 m². The main entrance, which was designed by LOVE, is situated on the main road – the busiest street in this part of the city. The goal of this design was to first attract potential Lentia City visitors with a friendly and distinctive appearance in the street and then usher them into the interior of the shopping center.
The parking garage is located at the University Medical Centre in Ljubljana. The project was commissioned by a company that builds residential and commercial buildings in Slovenia and prepares sites for the Hofer commercial network. A condition of the investor was that a classic HOFER supermarket had to be located on the ground floor in the standard form and dimensions of Hofer shops throughout Europe. The task was a very difficult one for designers, since the structural grid used in HOFER shops do not correspond to the grid required for the rational design of a parking garage.

The Mini Mall consists of 2500 sq. m. of retail and catering space for entrepreneurs, artists, designers and other creative minds, who will breathe new life into this unique area as from spring 2011. The development of the Hofplein Station into a compact shopping mall comes in response to a lack of affordable locations in Rotterdam where fresh new initiatives can see the light of day, but also with the aim to give the neighborhood quality boost.
